U.S. Soccer team to play Russia in November 14 exhibition match

The United States soccer team will complete its 2012 schedule with an exhibition against Russia at Krasnodar on November 14.

The game was announced on Thursday by the U.S. Soccer Federation.

The game could be the last for the Americans before starting the final round of World Cup qualifying on February 6.

U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann is trying to decide about getting rid of the annual January training camp which has been in Carson, California since 2004.

Russia wins world hockey championships over Slovakia

Alexander Semin of the Washington Capitals scored two goals and an assist and Russia scored three tallies in the second period in a 6-2 rout of Slovakia and are the winners of the world hockey championships in Helsinki, Finland.

Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings and tournament MVP Evgeni Malkin from the Pittsburgh Penguins also scored for Russia.

Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara scored both goals for Slovakia.

Federer, Azarenka recent tennis tour winners

Roger Federer beat Juan Martin del Potro 6-1, 6-4 to win the ABN Amro World Tennis tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

It was the Swedish star’s first title of the new year.

The 30-year-old Federer has won 81.31% of his matches for a record of 818-188 record in singles matches.

Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, which is a part of Russia, did not allow a lingering ankle injury stop her from winning the Qatar Open in Doha, routing Sam Stosur of Australia 6-1, 6-2.

Azarenka, 22-years-old has a singles record of 296-122 and has won 11 tournaments.

Red Wings welcome back Datsyuk from injury

The Detroit Red Wings welcomed back one of their veterans on Thursday night.

33-year-old Pavel Datsyuk, who is from Russia, played in last night’s shootout win over the Phoenix Coyotes, 3-2.

The center missed Tuesday night’s game due to a lower-body injury.

Datsyuk, who has been with the Detroit organization since 1998, played very well in the win. He assisted on Johan Franzen’s goal and scored in the shootout.

Russia takes down Canada in junior hockey semifinals

Russia stopped Canada’s comeback attempt and advanced to the world junior championship finals, winning 6-5 in the semis.

Canada had made every junior championship round since 2002.

Russia takes on Sweden in the gold medal game.

Sweden advanced by beating Finland 3-2.

The Canadians trailed 6-1 in the third period and scored four unanswered goals but could not get the tying tally late in the game.
