United States goes to 6-0 in world basketball championships

The U.S. basketball team wants to win the World Basketball Championships. And they want to show the world that they don’t need LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade and Amare Stoudamire to do it.

They are starting to be taken seriously by the other teams in the tournament in Istanbul, Turkey, especially after Monday’s 121-66 win over Angola in the quarterfinals.

Chauncey Billups scored 16 of his 19 points and Kevin Durant all of his 17 points in the first half.

Eric Gordon and Rudy Gay also scored 17 points for the United States. Gordon shot 5 of 6 from 3-point land.

Joaquim Gomes, who played his college ball at Valparaiso University of the Horizon League, scored 21 points for Angola, which finished  fourth in Group A.
