OHIO STATE AT PURDUE PREVIEW: Purdue’s Holland & Short will try to stop OSU running attack

Joe Holland

Kawann Short

The Purdue Boilermakers defense last week allowed Wisconsin RB Montee Ball to rush for 223 yards while the Badgers offense racked up 364 rushing yards and 605 total in that 62-17 debacle.

This week, it will not get any easier as the Boilermakers will be facing Ohio State’s three-headed running attack of Daniel Herron, Carlos Hyde and QB Braxton Miller will be arriving in Ross-Ade Stadium. They’ll have to pick their poison on who to stop.

The Purdue defense allows 26.4 points per game and only the Hoosiers allow more rushing yards per game in the Big Ten as we saw last week.

The Boilermakers do have a couple of players that the Buckeyes will have to watch, LB Joe Holland and DT Kawann Short. Holland is 19th in school history with 297 career tackles. Short is one of the best in the Big Ten at DT as his 12.5 tackles for a loss ranks fourth.

Another player to watch on the Purdue defense is CB Ricardo Allen, who has three interceptions and has returned one for a touchdown.
