Maggert wins Regions Tradition tournament on first playoff hole

51-year-old Jeff Maggert won his second Champions Tour event on Sunday and the first senior major championship.

Maggert beat Kevin Sutherland with a 3-foot par putt on the first playoff hole to win the Champions Tour’s Regions Tradition in Birmingham, Alabama.

Maggert, a Texas A&M graduate, has been a pro golfer since 1986.

The 1990 Ben Hogan Player of the Year and 1990 leading money winner has won 15 professional tournaments spanning the PGA Tour, and Champions Tour.

Lehman wins second straight Regions Tradition on Champions Tour

Tom Lehman earned his second straight Regions Tradition, finishing the major tournament on the Champions Tour with a 4-under-par 68 to win by two strokes.

For the tournament, Lehman shot a 14-under 274.

It was his sixth win on the Champions Tour and 30th of his career.

Lehman overcame the rains and charges from Bernhard Langer and Chien Soon Lu, who both finished with a 66 to share second place.

Champions Tour major, Regions Tradition led by Glasson by two shots over Cochran

The Champions Tour, the 50-year-old and up golfers, is underway with the second major of the season, the Regions Tradition in Birmingham, Alabama.

The leader is Bill Glasson, who shot a 3-under-par 69 to take a two-shot lead over Russ Cochran (68) after the second round.

Defending champion Tom Lehman (69) is three strokes behind with Fred Funk (71), Brad Bryant (69) and Jeff Sluman (68).

Glasson is at 9-under 135 at Shoal Creek. He made only one bogey on Friday, the #16 hole in the first 36 holes of the tournament.

Calcavecchia holds on barely in Alabama

Mark Calcavecchia did not play particularly well on Saturday at the Champions Tour Regions Tradition tournament in Birmingham, Alabama.

He gave away 5 strokes of a 6-shot lead as a shot a 1-under 71 in the senior golfers major event. He faltered with a double bogey and two bogeys on the final eight holes. He finished at 12 under for a one-stroke lead over Jay Haas.

Calcavecchia leads Regions Tradition tourney in Alabama

Mark Calcavecchia, who has seen his golf game revived since he started playing on the Champions Tour, surged to the lead in the Regions Tradition Tournament with a 7-under-par 65 in the second round of the senior golfers tour event in Birmingham, Alabama.

Calcavecchia is at 11-under-par.

Kenny Perry matched Calcavecchia’s play with a 65 but is three strokes off the pace.
