Columbus Bishop Ready is heading to the state for the first time since 2002

compiled from staff and wire reports

Ready senior Joe Graessle took ahold of his teammates and put them on his back and carried them to the Division III regional final over the Cincinnati Taft Senators, 66-57 in overtime.

Graessle led all scorers with 37 points in the game which was played at Kettering Fairmont.

This will be the fourth time Ready has played in the state tournament. They won state titles in 1972 and 1973 and was runnerup in 2002.

The Taft Senators, end the season at 22-3 and usually a solid defensive team, but they had trouble all night containing Joe Graessle and not to mention, Cody Culbertson who finished with 15 points.

Graessle scored 19 first half points and all of Ready’s field goals in the second quarter and that the Silver Knights lead at halftime, 27-24.

But Taft started to heat up behind forward Adoplhus Washington scoring 7 points in the third quarter to put the Senators up 34-33 at the end of 3 quarters.

18-6 Ready started the 4th quarter with Graessle on the bench with foul trouble. That’s when Cody Culbertson kept the Silver Knights in the game by scoring seven of their final 10 points in regulation and scored 4 points in overtime to secure the win.
