University of Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has been named the national offensive player of the week ending September 18 by The Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Mallett led the Razorbacks to a thrilling 31-24 road win at Georgia, with 380 yards of passing and three touchdowns. The native of Texarkana, Arkansas, threw the game-winning touchdown to Greg Childs for a 40-yard scoring play with 15 seconds left in the contest to seal the deal for Arkansas.

Mallett, quarterbacking the 12th-ranked Razorbacks to a 3-0 record, 1-0 in the Southeastern Conference with his performance, threw touchdown passes covering 57, 22 and 40 yards in the Georgia game. The win improved UA to 3-0 for the first time since 2003.

Mallett’s season numbers are 1,081 yards of passing, completing 70-of-100 attempts for nine touchdowns. Mallett has one rushing touchdown. He currently is the NCAA leader in passing and ranks third in the country in total offense.

This is the seventh year that The Walter Camp Football Foundation has honored an offensive and defensive player per week during the regular season. The foundation, a New Haven-based all-volunteer group, was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp, who is called “The Father of American football”. Camp first selected an All-American team in 1889, with the Foundation’s goal to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
