OHIO STATE AT MIAMI (FL) GAMEWEEK: Buckeyes’ Brewster glad to play in home state of Florida

Ohio State All-American senior center Mike Brewster was born in Kansas, but moved to Florida early in his life. He is looking forward to the Buckeyes trip to Miami because he has not played in his home state since the high school days in Orlando.

Brewster is regarded as the best center in college football. He is a four-year starter with 38 career starts.

In 2010 he was the only junior to rank among the finalists for the Rimington Trophy, was a first team all-Big Ten selection and a FFWA and Phil Steele first team All-American.

This season Brewster was named to the preseason Playboy All-America team, the Rimington and Outland Trophy watch lists and was voted one of 12 “players to watch” by a Big Ten media panel.

Brewster was asked earlier week about the OSU offense, Miami’s history and their defense.

As expected, former Ohio State defensive lineman Cameron Heyward was selected 31st overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday night in the 2011 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Heyward is the 69th Buckeye overall to be drafted in the first round and the 17th since 2000, the second most among FBS schools during that time. He also is the 74th Buckeyes to be drafted overall since 2000, the most among any FBS school. He is the 14th first-round pick in the Jim Tressel era.

Rounds 2-3 continue Friday evening beginning at 6 p.m. ET while rounds 4-7 will take place Saturday beginning at noon.

Heyward was a Playboy All-American, a Lombardi Award semifinalist and a Lott Trophy quarterfinalist in 2010. A first team all-Big Ten selection by both coaches and the media in 2010, Heyward started 46 career games, totaling 163 tackles, 37.5 TFL and 15.5 sacks.

At the Ohio State football banquet in December, Heyward was awarded the Bill Willis Trophy from the coaches as the team’s outstanding defensive player in helping the Buckeyes defense rank among the national leaders in several stat categories.
