Blue Jackets drop 4-3 decision to Phoenix

The Columbus Blue Jackets are still searching for that winning formula, which has been missing since November.

They came a little bit closer to playing better in a recent game against Phoenix. The Jackets lost 4-3 before 11,109 at Nationwide Arena.

Columbus received goals from Jared Boll, Rostislav Klesla and Kristian Huselius.

The home team could not win despite leading 2-0 less than six minutes into the first period and 3-1 which evaporated early in the third period.

The Phoenix Coyotes, who have been a thorn in the side of the Blue Jackets for years, won the game on a flukey goal in the third period.

At 10:44 of the third, the Coyotes’ Derek Morris fired the puck into a crowd that caromed off Blue Jackets goaltender Mathieu Garon’s blocker pad, flipped up into the air and dropped into the goal off his back and that was the game.

Hamlin wins NASCAR chase race at Texas; surges into lead with two to go

Denny Hamlin must love racing at the Texas Speedway in the Dallas suburb of Fort Worth.

Last weekend, he won at Texas for the second time in 2010 and now leads in the closest three-way Chase for the Sprint Cup title with two races left.

Hamlin took control with 29 laps to go. Then was challenged on the final restart by Matt Kenseth with three laps remaining but held on to win the AAA Texas 500.

Hamlin now has a series-best eight wins in 2010.

Jimmie Johnson’s chances of winning a fifth consecutive NASCAR title took a severe blow. He started the race with a slim 14-point lead over Denny Hamlin, but now is in second place, 33 points behind Hamlin.

Kevin Harvick is third in points and 59 behind Hamlin.

This week “The Chase” heads to Phoenix.
