BMW CHAMPIONSHIP at Crooked Stick Golf Club: Gardner Heidrick Pro-AM

CARMEL, INDIANA — Wednesday’s Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am golf tournament was suspended after 9 holes due to an hour and 43 minute rain delay.

Just before the noon hour, winds were blowing close to 50 mph around the area.

Tiger Woods and his morning grouping were on the 17th hole when play was officially suspended at 11:32 a.m.

All but two of the morning groupings played at least nine holes.

Tiger Woods on the heels of Pettersson after one round of PGA Championship

Carl Pettersson made three birdies on the par-5′s to grab a one-shot lead on Gary Woodland, Rory McIlroy, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Alex Noren at the PGA Championship on Kiawah Island, S.C.

A surprise on the leaderboard was John Daly, who had been an after-thought in recent years on the PGA Tour. Daly, shockingly won this same tournament in 1991, opened with a 68. He hasn’t won a tournament since 2004, but has renewed vigor in his life and golf game these days.

The PGA Tour’s only three-time winner in 2012, Tiger Woods is making noise as well.

Woods hit 10 of 18 greens and nine of 14 fairways and connected on one birdie on the four par-5 holes. He made 22 putts and is three shots back of Pettersson and one behind Daly.

Woods is trying for his 15th major win, 75th on the PGA Tour and 102nd overall as a pro.

It’s hard to believe, but Tiger Woods has dropped out of the top 50 in the world golf rankings for the first time in almost 15 years.

Woods, who hasn’t won a tournament in almost two years, took the drop when Louis Oosthuizen finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the Dunhill Links Championship.

The 35-year-old Woods has been out of action since he missed the cut at the PGA Championship. He returns to the competition this week at the Open, which he barely qualified for at #48 a few weeks ago.

Tiger Woods misses cut at PGA; return unknown

The frustration continues for Tiger Woods as he missed the cut at the PGA Championship in Atlanta on Friday. It’s only the third time he has failed to make the cut at a Major tournament.

Woods shot a three-over par 73 in his second round at the Atlanta Athletic Club after shooting a 77 in the opening round.

Woods said he will now work with his swing coach Sean Foley until tournaments in November in Asia and Australia and a charity event in December.

He has not won any tournaments since the Australian Open in November of 2009 and no major titles since the 2008 U.S.Open.

Woods has dropped to 30th in the world rankings after his 10-over-par 150 in the PGA Championship.

Tiger Woods has missed two majors during the 2011 season and will not miss another.

Woods has added his name to the entry list for the PGA Championship which will be played August 11-14 at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

As reported a few days ago, Tiger will returning to the PGA Tour next week in Akron, Ohio at the World Golf Championships.

Woods has been on the shelf for almost three months as he allowed injuries to his left leg heal properly.

Woods has not won a tournament in the past 20 months and has failed to win his last nine majors.
