Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay in media reports around the Indiana capital city, says that Peyton Manning will be the one deciding if he stays with the team.

The 35-year-old Manning has spent the past five months recovering from his third neck surgery in less than a two-year period, and there is no official report on how much progress he has made towards healing.

Irsay says that he’ll be meeting with Manning in the next week and that if he ever throws a football for the Colts again, the quarterback will have to be willing to restructure his contract.

The Colts are on the books to owe Manning a roster bonus of $28 million by March 8.

Cam Newton’s improbable rookie season is continuing with more records being broken.

On Sunday in Carolina’s 48-16 win over Tampa Bay, he broke Peyton Manning’s rookie record for passing yards in a season and set a franchise record with a 91-yard touchdown pass to Brandon LaFell.

The loss was the Buccaneers’ ninth straight defeat.

Manning came into the game needing 18 passing yards to break Manning’s record of 3,739 accomplished that on the Panthers’ first possession to LaFell on a 7-yard pass.

Newton threw for three touchdowns and scored himself on a 49-yard run up the middle where he outran smaller, faster defensive backs to the end zone.

Tampa Bay has one of the league’s worst defenses at #30.
