Cavs turn tables on Lakers, 104-99

The Cleveland Cavaliers proved the old adage of anybody-can-beat-anybody when they hung a loss on the arrogant Los Angeles Lakers, 104-99.

35 days ago the Lakers were clowning around and laughing as they routed the Cavaliers in LA 112-57, a record for margin of loss in team history of 55 points.

The Cavs stayed in the game from the outset to the delight of the sellout crowd at Quicken Loans Arena.

Ramon Sessions, who came into the game early when Mo Williams re-injured his right ankle, scored a team-high 32 points and dished out eight assists.

Sessions had help all across the board as Antawn Jamison scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Anthony Parker chipped in with 18 points and nine assists and J.J. Hickson provided 13 points and collared 15 rebounds.

Pau Gasol scored 30 points and hauled down 20 rebounds. Kobe Bryant had 17 points and 12 rebounds, but he was only 8 of 24 from the field, committed seven turnovers and was hounded defensively all night by Parker, Jamarrio Moon and Christian Eyenga.

Lakers win as expected; rally past Boston in Game 7, 83-79

compiled from staff, wire and NBA news

The Los Angeles Lakers have won their 16th NBA championship after a gritty and well-earned 83-79 victory over the arch-rival Boston Celtics.

The Lakers and Phil Jackson have put themselves deeper into history in the NBA record books.

Phil Jackson (nba)

Ron Artest had 20 points and Pau Gasol added 19 points and 18 rebounds in the win.

Paul Pierce had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Celtics, who just couldn’t finish the final quarter of a remarkable playoff run after a fourth-place finish in the Eastern Conference. Kevin Garnett added 17 points and Rasheed Wallace had 11.

The Lakers will hold a parade on Monday, with the team riding floats from the Staples Center down Figueroa Street to the USC campus in downtown Los Angeles. The rally in 2009 at the LA Coliseum drew 95,000 fans, but Lakers officials are in favor of a more interactive celebration.

Home teams improved to 14-3 in Game 7 of the finals. No road team has won a title in Game 7 since 1978.

Lakers dominate Celtics to force Game 7 on Thursday

compiled from staff and wire reports

With First Lady Michelle Obama was on hand watching the game from a luxury box in the Staples Center and it might’ve inspired the Lakers.

Faced with elimination for the first time during the 2010 playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers took matters into their own hands.

Pau Gasol (nba)

Kobe Bryant scored 26 points, Pau Gasol added 17 points and 13 rebounds, and the Lakers held Boston to the second lowest-scoring performance in NBA finals history in an 89-67 victory in Game 6, setting up a winner-take-all Game 7 in Los Angeles.

Ron Artest added 15 points for the Lakers, who got their backs off the wall with a dazzling first half and a strong finish built around defense that suffocated Boston to 33 percent shooting. Only Utah’s 54-point performance against Chicago in 1998 was worse.

Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 13 points and Kevin Garnett added 12, but their offense was mostly held to jumbled, clogged-up and stand-around-and-watch as point guard Rajon Rondo had nowhere to go with the ball.

Celtics led bye “Big Baby” Glen Davis and reserves, beat Lakers

compiled from staff and wire reports

The Boston Celtics tied up the 2010 NBA finals at 2-2, by using their dominant size inside against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 to win 96-89 on their home court, Thursday.

Backup forward, Glen “Big Baby” Davis scored half of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Celtics bench pulled away from the Lakers while starting center Andrew Bynum did not play in the second half while he rested his sore knee.

Kobe Bryant scored 33 points and Pau Gasol had 21 for the Lakers.

Nate Robinson (nba)

Paul Pierce scored 19 points, Kevin Garnett had 13 and Ray Allen bounced back from a seven quarter shooting slump to score 12 points for Boston. That trio was on the bench for much of the fourth quarter run that gave Boston the lead for good.

In that fourth quarter, the Celtics scored 13 of 15 points during a five-minute span when Allen was the only starter on the court, mostly with Glen Davis, Rasheed Wallace, Nate Robinson and Tony Allen.

Kobe gets help from his teammates to beat Boston in Game 3

compiled from staff and wire reports

Early in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s game in Boston, Kobe Bryant was the only Lakers player scoring any points. After a timeout and a pep talk in the huddle, his teammates finally started scoring when Bryant was shut down in helping the Lakers to a 91-84 win over the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the NBA finals.

Derek Fisher (nba)

Lamar Odom, who was very quiet in two games off the bench in Los Angeles, made two baskets in the final quarter, both when the Celtics were within one possession of a tie or to go-ahead. Derek Fisher had five of his six field goals in the period and Pau Gasol added one.
