Former Ohio State basketball player Deshaun Thomas has signed a one-year contract with JSF Nanterre, who won France’s Pro A playoffs last season.

Another former Buckeyes’ basketball player, David Lighty, a teammate of Thomas’ at OSU, played for the same team last year and was the MVP.

Lighty has moved on, as he did not re-sign with JSF Nanterre. The Cleveland, Ohio native has accepted an invitation from the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks to attend training camp and compete for a roster spot.

Nanterre, will not only defend its French title this coming season, but will also play against some strong competition in Europe’s Euroleague.

COLUMBUS, OHIO — Just like the week before in the Miami, Ohio game, the Ohio State defense made a boatload of mistakes.

The defense had trouble with pass coverages and long runs by the running back.

Freshman DE Noah Spence

On Central Florida’s first touchdown, Storm Johnson, the Miami Hurricanes transfer, rumbled 48 yards down the right sideline and would’ve took it to the house if he hadn’t ran out of gas at the Ohio State 12.

On the Knight’s second touchdown, on a fourth-down, a 2-yard pass to fullback Billy Giovanetti out of a three-receiver cluster formation. The fullback simply got open and one was arround to defend on defense for the Buckeyes.

Another area which was suppose to be strong was the pass rush with John Simon, Johnathan Hankins and Garrett Goebel around. But for the second straight week, was a no-factor due to QB Blake Bortles quick release to get the pass out. He was not hurried, was sack once and threw three interceptions only because of his careless, not the OSU pass rush. Simon, to be fair here, was double-teammed most of the day.

The defense with nine pass breakups was a positive sign.

Freshman DT Tommy Schutt

The defense did have its stars in Travis Howard, Orhian Johnson and Etienne Sabino all with the interceptions

The fans did get to see some new stars from three freshman, DE Noah Spence, DT Tommy Schutt and DE Adolphus Washington. Remember those names, because they’ll be the next All-Big Ten performers on the defense.

Washington Huskies play at Safeco Field for 6th year in a row

The University of Washington Huskies baseball team will play once again at Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, when they take on the UCLA Bruins at 6pm on Friday, May 11.

The last five springs, the Huskies have played Pac-12 Conference games at Safeco Field – vs. OSU (2007, 2009, 2011), Arizona (2008), Arizona State (2009), Stanford (2010).

This will be the Dawgs’ seventh game at Safeco, as they played two games there in 2009, and will mark the first time the Huskies have taken on the Bruins at the big-league field. Washington first played at Safeco Field in 2007, when 10,421 fans watched the Huskies beat defending NCAA champion Oregon State, 6-2. Since then, the Huskies have played Arizona (2008), Oregon State and Arizona State (2009), Stanford (2010) and Oregon State (2011) at the Mariners’ home.

The red-hot Washington baseball team (26-18 overall, 11-10 in the Pac-12) makes its annual visit to Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, this Friday to open a three-game series vs. UCLA (31-12, 12-9). The Huskies return from a seven-game road trip on which they won six games. The UW has won seven of its last eight overall and has (importantly when it comes to postseason hopes) moved over .500 in Pac-12 play after sweeping USC last weekend in Los Angeles. The Bruins, who are ranked No. 11 by both Baseball America and the coaches poll.
