Several factors can cause a college head basketball coach to lose his job.

A losing season record, overall losing record at the current school, second-half of game failures, losing games in the final moments, losing to your arch-rivals, most of all a half-filled arena and no enthusiasm from the student section.

All of those factors led Oregon State University to fire head coach Craig Robinson.

Robinson finished with a an overall record of 95-105 with the Beavers. He had one season above .500 at 21-15, two .500 seasons at 18-18 and 16-16, his first and last seasons respectively. And three below .500 seasons. His first team in 2008-2009,  went on to post a 5–1 record and captured its first post-season tournament championship ever with a final series victory over the UTEP Miners in the finals of the College Basketball Invitational. He would take the Beavers to the CBI Tournament four times. But the administration frowned on the fact that Oregon State never made it to the NCAA Tournament. His teams rarely beat their arch-rivals, the Oregon Ducks during his tenure.

The 52-year-old Robinson, who stands 6’6 inches tall,  is the older brother of United States First Lady Michelle Obama. He was a forward for Princeton University in the Ivy League from 1979-1983. Robinson was a two-time Ivy League forward and led the league in field goal percentage both years. He is the fourth highest scorer in school history. He played for the legendary Pete Carril.

Oregon Ducks running back LaMichael James has declared himself eligible for the 2012 NFL draft.

James has not hired an agent as of yet.

The 5’9, 195-pound All-American, rushed for a school-record 1,805 yards this season despite missing two games because of a dislocated right elbow.

James led the nation with an average of 150.4 yards per game this year.

MacArthur Bowl Trophy claimed by Auburn Tigers

The National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame (NFF) has presented the MacArthur Bowl to the Auburn Tigers, who finished 14-0 as their reward for beating the Oregon Ducks, 22-19 in the Tostitos BCS National Championship Game before a sellout crowd of 78,603 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Oregon finishes the season at 12-1.

NFF President & CEO Steven J. Hatchell handed the national championship trophy to Auburn head coach Gene Chizik who accepted the trophy on behalf of his program which marked the 52nd time that a team has claimed the prestigious trophy.

Wes Bynum kicked a 19-yard field goal as time expired and #1 Auburn beat #2 Oregon.

Oregon had tied the game at 19 with 2:33 left when Darron Thomas found Jeff Maehl on a tying two-point conversion pass after LaMichael James scored on a shovel pass.

Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton and the Tigers of Auburn went back to work with a 73-yard drive, with freshman Michael Dyer making key plays. He ran over several Oregon players and when the play wasn’t blown dead, he ran another 32 yards to the 23 -yard line.

One play later, Dyer scampered for 16 yards up the middle to the 1-yard line.

Newton was pushed back a yard on the next play, bringing on Bynum with two seconds to kick the game winner and give Auburn its first national championship since 1957 and the Southeastern Conference’s fifth in a row. It also was the second straight year that the state of Alabama has won the national title. In 2010, the Alabama Crimson Tide located in Tuscaloosa won it. And now in 2011, Auburn University from Auburn, Alabama which is near Phenix City and Opelika, has won it.

Auburn is the 2010 SEC Champions and Oregon the 2010 Pac-10 Champions.

The MacArthur Trophy was not presented until 1959. This is the first time the Auburn program has won the award.

The 1957 Auburn Team, coached by Hall of Fame Coach Shug Jordan, went 10-0 and claimed the Associated Press national championship. The Tigers’ win continues the streak of SEC teams to claim the national crown, becoming the fifth straight SEC team to win the title game.

Representing the pinnacle of team achievement in college sports, the trophy was the gift of an annonymous donor, who commissioned Tiffany & Company to craft it from 400 ounces of silver, in honor of NFF founder General Douglas A. MacArthur. It took eight months to make, and the trophy features MacArthur’s famous quote: “There is no substitute for victory.” The 2010 Auburn team will now have its name etched on the silver trophy, which will visit Auburn, Alabama, until the 2011 champions claim it. Last year, more than 500,000 people saw the trophy while it was on display in Tuscaloosa, Alabama after the Crimson Tide’s win in the BCS title game.

The Oregon Ducks have the strangest uniforms in the nation, a high-octane offense and now they are the Associated Press’ Number 1 team in college football; for right now.

The Ducks moved up to the top seat for the first time on Sunday, from second after the previous week’s Number 1 team Ohio State was upset at Wisconsin, 31-18 on Saturday night.

When the first BCS standings came out, Oklahoma was first with Oregon second and Boise State third.

However, the AP poll is not part of the BSC standings. Boise State is number 2 and Oklahoma is 3rd.

The Ohio State Buckeyes dropped all the way to 11th.
