Rogers Cup winners are Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams


Serena Williams won her third Rogers Cup women’s championship by dominating unseeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 6-0 in Toronto.

Williams, who currently is ranked #1 in the world, has 54 WTA titles and a singles record of 610-111, good for 84.6%.

On the men’s side, Rafael Nadal beat Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-2 in the Rogers Cup final in Montreal.

The loss spoiled Raonic’s bid to become the first Canadian winner in the 55 years of the prestigious tournament.

Nadal beat Novak Djokovic in Saturday’s semifinal match.

Djokovic leads Serbia to 3-1 lead over United States in Davis Cup action

Novak Djokovic, despite a right ankle injury still helped lift Serbia to a huge 3-1 lead over the United States with a 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0 win over Sam Querrey in a Davis Cup quarterfinal match in Boise, Idaho.

The World’s #1 Men’s Tennis player twisted his ankle on Querrey’s serve in the third game.

Nadal readies himself for return to Tennis at Abu Dhabi

Rafael Nadal is back on the tennis court getting ready to play competively again.

The 26-year-old has confirmed in media reports that he will play in an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi on December 27 after a six-month healing period recovering from a knee injury.

Nadal started his workouts in late November to play in the six-man field that will also include #1 Novak Djokovic and #3 Andy Murray.

Nadal has won over $50 million in prize earnings and that is second all-time in tennis.

Djokovic wins third Sony Ericsson title

The world’s number one tennis player Novak Djokovic won his third Sony Ericsson title over the weekend, holding onto every service game to beat Andy Murray 6-1,7-6 (4) in Key Biscayne, Florida.

The lone break point Djokovic faced came in the fifth game, and he was able to erase that.

In the tiebreaker, Djokovic lost only one service point and went ahead in the match to stay when Murray double-faulted to make the score 3-2.

Nadal with an easy match, advances at BNP Paribas Open

25-year-old Rafael Nadal, the world’s number-2 tennis player, is playing singles for the first time in six weeks.

On Sunday, the left-handed Spaniard advanced to the third round of the BNP Paribas Open with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer in Indian Wells, California.

Nadal now has a record of 550-188, winning 82.34% of his matches. He has 46 total titles.

Nadal had not played since losing to the world’s number-1 tennis player, Novak Djokovic in a six-hour final at the Australian Open which almost went 6 hours on January 29.
