Golson leaves Notre Dame; rumors suggest he will be the South Carolina QB

Quarterback Everett Golson has announced he is transferring from Notre Dame for his final season of eligibilty.

The 22-year-old Myrtle Beach native has been rumored to be going back to his home state of South Carolina to play for the Gamecocks and Steve Spurrier.

Golson ends an up-and-down career under head coach Brian Kelly that included a trip to the 2013 National Championship Game vs. Alabama and a 2014 trip to the Music City Bowl against LSU.

His first season in 2011,  Golson was redshirted in favor of sophomore quarterback Tommy Rees led the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to an 8-5 record.

In May 2013, it was reported that Golson was suspended from Notre Dame because of an academic violation.

NCAA Men’s Soccer title to be decided between Maryland & Notre Dame

The NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer title will be decided on Sunday between Maryland and Notre Dame.

The Terrapins beat Virginia 2-1 in one semi-final match.

Notre Dame defeated New Mexico 2-0 on Patrick Hodan’s two goals in Chester, Pa.

Everett Golson back in school at Notre Dame

Quarterback Everett Golson has been readmitted to Notre Dame after being suspended for the fall semester.

On Friday, December 13, 2013, Notre Dame announced that Golson has been readmitted, but will not be able to practice nor travel with the team for the Pinstripe Bowl.

In May of 2013, it was reported that Golson withdrew from Notre Dame because of an academic violation and other reasons. Assistant vice president for public information and communications said in an email: “Everett is not enrolled at Notre Dame. Federal law and our own policies preclude us from discussing specifics.”

At the time of his suspension, Golson admitted to having made “poor judgment on a test.”
In his first season as the starting quarterback, Golson accomplished much for coach Brian Kelly’s explosive  offensive unit. He was 187-of-318 passing the football for 2,405 yards with 12 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, and a pass efficiency rating 131.8. Golson also rushed for 299 yards and 6 touchdowns on 94 carries. His longest pass play of the season went for 50 yards to wideout John Goodman. Golson’s Fighting Irish finished the season ranked No. 3 by the USA Today Poll and No. 4 by the Associated Press Top 25 Poll with a record of 12-1.

Golson is from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.


Penn State, Central Florida to open 2014 football season in Ireland

The Penn State Nittany Lions will open the 2014 college football season against the Central Florida Knights in Ireland.

It’ll be the first international game for either team.

The Gaelic Athletic Association along with officials from both schools made the announcement on Sunday in Dublin, Ireland. The game will be played at Croke Park on August 30.

The 2014 game will be the eighth American college football game to be played in Ireland.

Notre Dame and Navy opened the 2012 season in Dublin’s Aviva Park.

The Nittany Lions will be the first Big Ten team to play internationally since Michigan State and Wisconsin met in Tokyo, Japan in the finale of the 1993 season.

Ohio State gets #2 seed in West Regional; plays Iona on Friday

Sam Thompson has been emerging lately for the Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes, who did the improbable, won their final five games of the season and then the Big Ten Tournament championship is heading to the NCAA and will only have to travel 85 miles to play.

The Buckeyes will travel to Southwest Ohio and play at the University of Dayton Arena against the Gaels of Iona.

The games in the West Region, will be Friday and Sunday.

Other matchups include, Indiana vs. the winner of the Long Island University/James Madison, NC State vs. Temple and  Notre Dame vs. Iowa State.
