OSU wins wild game against Northwestern, 15-14

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Northwestern Wildcats cooked up a wild finish in the final game of their three-game series.

Matt Streng was a hitting star for OSU, as he had four hits and belted a two-run homer.

A throwing error by the Wildcats in the ninth inning allowed Brian DeLucia to score the winning run in a wild 15-14 Big Ten contest in Bill Davis Stadium.

The Buckeyes up their record to 10-11, 2-1 while Northwestern falls to 8-15, 1-2.

The Buckeyes blew a 14-7 lead after six innings as the Wildcats rallied to tie the score at 14-14.

DeLucia walked to lead off the ninth inning for Ohio State and scored all the way from first base when Wildcats reliever Paul Snieder overthrew first base on Tim Wetzel’s sacrifice bunt attempt and the ball sailed down the right-field line.

Baseball Buckeyes win 2010 home opener over Toledo, 4-3

Ohio State scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pick up a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Toledo in the home opener Wednesday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium. It was a perfect day for baseball in Columbus, Ohio with temperatures in the mid-60′s.

Eric Best tossed two perfect innings in relief to improve his record to 2-1 on the season while Drew Rucinski pitched a flawless ninth for his fourth save.  Dan Burkhart, Cory Kovanda and Ryan Dew each collected two hits for the Buckeyes.

The 14-7 Buckeyes will be traveling to Evanston, Illinois to take on the Northwestern Wildcats in the first Big Ten series of the season, Friday through Sunday.


* The Buckeyes have now won the last 17 matchups against the Rockets.

* Prior to Wednesday’s game, OSU has averaged 15.5 runs per game in the last 10 matchups against Toledo.

* Eight Buckeyes were hitting over .320 heading into Wednesday’s game.
