HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Eastmoor plummels Northridge, 83-38

Eastmoor Academy has not had a problem this year starting games off right in the first quarter.

The Warriors men’s basketball team blew out to a 24-2 lead in the first quarter and routed visiting Northridge, 83-38.

Super-sub Doug Ritchey led Eastmoor with 18 points. All told, the Warriors put four players in double figures scoring.

Eastmoor is now 4-0, while Northridge falls to 2-3.

SWIFT TAX SERVICES/ High School Bounce: Columbus Academy overpowers Hebron Lakewood in Mid-State League action

(file photo) broadcasted its second high school basketball game of the season Saturday night as Hebron Lakewood was taking on Columbus Academy in Gahanna, Ohio.

The two schools, members of the Mid-State League Ohio Division, which also includes: Bexley, Granville, Heath, Licking Valley, Newark Catholic and Whitehall.

The Lancers of Lakewood came into the game having a miserable season at 0-9 overall, 0-5 in the league.

The Columbus Academy Vikings hit the hardwood with a 6-3 record, 2-2 in the league.

From the outset of the game, Academy dominated all aspects in route to a 66-50 win.

Academy jumped out quickly at 11-0 when Lakewood took a timeout at 4:36 of the first quarter. The quarter finally ended with the Vikings up 19-7, forcing the Lancers into 10 turnovers in the first quarter using a full court press mixed in with various zone defenses.

Getting off to a bad start was not the only bad omen for the Lancers, their top player Ross Watts, got into early foul trouble and never scored a point and only took two shots the entire game.

Columbus Academy cruised from their, leading 32-17 at the half, 58-33 at the end the three and the final of 66-50.

The Vikings defensively forced 19 turnovers and only committed 10 themselves. They clearly had a height advantage and played at a quicker pace which affected the smaller Lancers.

Academy had balanced scoring in the victory.

Daniel Aronowitz scored 15 points to lead the way. Zach Ratcliff, who was the Player of the Game for Academy had 14 points. Austin Peterman added 11 and Tim Eldridge chipped in with 10.

The Lakewood Lancers were led by reserve forward/center Joe Cramer, who was selected as their Player of the Game. Brandon Haggerty added 13 and Austen Morgan scored 12.

* The Vikings have beaten: Wellington, Ready, Newark Catholic, Northridge, Granville, Licking Valley and now Lakewood.

* The Vikings have lost to Heath 59-56, Whitehall 61-55 and Worthington Christian 54-47.

* The Vikings are 7-3, 3-2 in the MSL Ohio.

HIGH SCHOOL Bonus game of the week: Triad Cardinals 41 Riverside Pirates 6



DE GRAFF, OHIO — Addison Ford rushed for two touchdowns and had three interceptions as Triad picked up a road win. The Cardinals are much-improved from the 2009 squad who only won 3 games.


Quarterback Kaleb Deam rushed for 103 yards, 194 yards of total offense and a touchdown rushing and passing.

The Cardinals’ (2-0) defense limited the Pirates to 28 yards rushing and only 100 yards total offense.

Cedarville blasted Cincinnati Christian, 48-6.

Mechanicsburg easily over Northridge, 66-20.

West Liberty-Salem defeats Northwestern, 14-6.

Fairbanks shuts out Southeastern, 28-0.

Urbana rolled over Northeastern, 42-19.

Greeneview was idle on Friday.
