The Hockey East Conference is very strong. Its member’s include: Boston College, Boston University, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Massachusetts-Lowell, Merrimack, New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Providence College and Vermont.

The league just got stronger with the addition of Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish are leaving the lame-duck Central Collegiate Hockey Association for Hockey East beginning with the 2013-14 season. The program will get much-needed national exposure with a TV deal with NBC.

NBC, which has been airing Notre Dame football games for more than twenty years, will televise Irish hockey, and will also add the other Hockey East teams as needed.

Details of the TV deal are not completed.

Notre Dame, which has been a member of the CCHA since 1992, will become the 11th member of Hockey East.

Last season, the Rockets finished 8-5 with a 34-32 loss to Florida International in the Little Caesars Bowl.
