COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Anaheim Ducks have a potent power-play when its working.

Unfortunately for the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday evening at Nationwide Arena, it was working quite well with Corey Perry leading the way going 3 for 4.

Perry, the Ducks right winger, scored three goals for his fifth career hat trick, and second against the Blue Jackets this season, to lead Anaheim to a 5-3 win. The Ducks are on a season-long, eight-game road trip.

The surging Ducks are 12-3-3 since January 1.

Anaheim trying to get to the playoffs, have earned at least one point in 15 of their last 17 games. However, they are 11 games behind the eighth and final spot . Their slow start cost Randy Carlyle his job and they’ve brought in Bruce Boudreau formerly of the Washington Capitals.

Perry’s line was hot last night as Bobby Ryan scored a goal, notched an assist and Ryan Getlaf garnered three assists for Anaheim. Jason Blake also scored for the Ducks.

41-year-old Teemu Selanne, who will be a Hall of Famer in the future, led Anaheim in points in his 20th season, put up an assists which tied him for 21st place with Brett Hull on the NHL’s career list with 1,391 points.

The Blue Jackets received a goal and assist from Fedor Tyutin. Aaron Johnson and Antoine Vermette also scored for Columbus, who have been playing well winning three out of their last four games.

GAME NOTES:

* Columbus scored on the power-play for the fifth straight game, tying a season-high.

* The Ducks improved to 5-1-2 on the road after losing a franchise-record 13 games in a row.

* The Blue Jackets allowed the first goal of the game for the 32nd time this season. The team is 5-25-2 in those games, while going 3-16-1 when trailing after the first period and 2-22-1 when trailing after two periods.

* The Blue Jackets are 21-19-4 all-time vs. Anaheim, including 11-10-1 at Nationwide Arena.

* There were 14,043 fans in Nationwide Arena on Sunday.

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS Post-Game Summary: Anaheim 5 Columbus 3

Anaheim Ducks Right Wing Corey Perry is a Blue Jackets killer!

In Sunday night’s fourth and final meeting of the season between the two teams, Perry scored his 24, 25 and 26 goals of the season and a hat trick in leading the Ducks to a 5-3 win over the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena before a crowd of 14,043.

The NHL’s MVP from last season, scored his second hat trick of the season (both against Columbus) in a one month span.

He scored just :46 seconds into the game and added another before the end of the first period to put the Ducks up 2-0.

His third goal came in the second period and he almost had a fourth goal in the third, but CBJ goalie Steve Mason stopped him cold with a good save.

In January, the 6’3, 203-pound Perry scored a hat trick at the Honda Center against Columbus. He is the first player to score a hat trick against Columbus in the same season.

GAME NOTES:

* Defenseman Fedor Tyutin snapped an 18-game goalless skid with his fourth of the season tonight. He had last scored Dec. 29 at Dallas. He is now tied for the team lead among defensemen in goals with Grant Clitsome. He later added an assist for second multi-point game in the last three outings. He has points in three of the last four games (1-4-5) after being held pointless the previous nine games. In 298 games with the Blue Jackets, he has tallied 26-91-117 compared to 15-52-67 in 251 games with the NY Rangers. In 18 career games against Anaheim, he has 4-8-12.

* Center Jeff Carter collected his first assist in seven games with a helper on Tyutin’s goal. He last had an assist Dec. 31 vs. Washington. He has points in three of the last five games (2-1-3) after being held to 0-1-1 the previous seven games. He has recorded 2-3-5 in eight career games against the Ducks.

Strong first period leads Dallas over Columbus, 4-2

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Dallas Stars are fighting for a playoff spot and if they have the lead going into the third period, the law of averages favors them.

The Stars are 16-0-0 when leading after two periods, which ties them for first in the league. The last time they have lost a game in regulation when leading into the third period, was on October 31, 2009. From that point forward, they are 57-0-5.

Thursday night at Nationwide Arena, the Blue Jackets discovered why the Stars are so good in protecting a lead as the visitors prevailed, 4-2.

The Stars went up 3-0 21 minutes into the game, but the Blue Jackets scored two power-play goals and then had several chances to get the tying goal in the final period but couldn’t get the puck passed Kari Lehtonen who had 26 saves.

Jamie Benn scored two goals, Stephane Robidas had a goal and an assist, and Mike Robeiro added two assists for the Stars who badly need points every game because they are 12th in the Western Conference but only two points behind 8th place Minnesota for the final playoff spot.

Columbus, who has looked more like a real team under interim coach Todd Richards, scored twice in the second period, both on power plays. Vinny Prospal and Rick Nash scored, while Fedor Tyutin and Derick Brassard garnered two assists each.

It was a tough night for two players, defenseman Marc Methot left the game with a broken jaw and right winger Jared Boll broke his foot.

GAME NOTES:

*** NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, met with the media before the game and was in attendance. Earlier in the day, he made the announcement of the 2013 Winter Classic between Detroit and Toronto at the University of Michigan’s football stadium.

*** Scouts were in the pressbox at Nationwide Arena with the trading deadline just 2 1/2 weeks away. The scouts were from Nashville, Ottawa, Detroit, San Jose, New Jersey, Montreal, Vancouver, Chicago, St. Louis and Tampa Bay.

Home Sweet Home awaiting Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets rally from 2-0 deficit to beat Edmonton; Richards now 2-2 as coach

The Columbus Blue Jackets are playing well under interim head coach Todd Richards.

The team seems to be responding to his techniques and instruction. That could not be said for fired coach Scott Arniel, who ended up blaming the media for the team’s troubles in his final month with the team.

On Tuesday night, the Jackets were down 2-0 to the Edmonton Oilers, just 8:50 into the game and Richards called a timeout to just give the team a breather and to remind them the game is not won or lost in the opening period.

In the past under Arniel, this team did not have rallies to win, but under the more experienced Richards, they have the capability and they did.

The Blue Jackets beat the Oilers 4-2 in Nationwide Arena before a nice crowd of 13,814.

For the first time all year, covering 45 games, the Jackets rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win.

Curtis Sanford was the winning goaltender, stopping 21 of 23 shots for Columbus.

The goal scorers included Ryan Johansen and the 3 Derricks (all different spellings), Derick Brassard, Derek MacKenzie and Derek Dorsett.

The 3 stars of the game were MacKenzie, Dorsett and Brassard.
