COLLEGE FOOTBALL: #9 South Carolina gets past Vanderbilt, 17-13

The South Carolina Gamecocks and head coach Steve Spurrier traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to take on a scrappy Vanderbilt team.

The Gamecocks were able to survive due to the fact they received big games from Marcus Lattimore and Connor Shaw.

Lattimore ran for two touchdowns and 110 yards in his first game back after tearing his left ACL, and Shaw rushed for 92 yards while playing the second half with an injured shoulder as South Carolina rallied a 17-13 win over the Commodores on Thursday night.

Shaw bruised his right, throwing shoulder late in the first half and missed the first two series of the third quarter before returning to action.

The junior quarterback down the field for the go-ahead touchdown as Lattimore did the honors on a 1-yard run with 11:25 to go in the game. Shaw is now 9-1 as a starter at QB.

South Carolina, normally a high-yardage passing team, only garnered 67 yards through the air, which is very rare.

Vanderbilt and head coach James Franklin wanted a sellout crowd at Vanderbilt Stadium, which seats 39,773; did pack in 38,393 fans who did their part in the “blackout” by wearing all black. It seemed to give the Commodores a big boost, as they earned three sacks, forced two turnovers and outgained South Carolina 276-272 in total offense.

Originally, Lindsey was asked to audition for the role of gas station attendant Gomer Pyle on the The Andy Griffith Show, but lost the part to Jim Nabors.

In 1964, with the popularity of Gomer Pyle, the show’s producers created a spin-off show, Gomer Pyle, USMC and his cousin, Goober Pyle to take his place on the The Andy Griffith Show.
