FOX has the televised broadcast with a starting tme of 3:16 p.m.

After Stardust International Raceway closed up in 1970, plans were made for a dragstrip, road course and dirt track and a $72 million superspeedway, which was completed in 1996.

Indycar driver Richie Hearn won the first race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Mark Martin won the first Cup race in 1998.

The 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season officially opens today with one of the most popular races on the circuit, the Daytona 500 from Daytona Beach, Florida.

The race starts at 1 pm, today, February 24 on FOX Sports.

On the pole will Danica Patrick, who is the first female driver to ever achieve the top spot in NASCAR’S premiere series.

The design of the track at Daytona, which opened 54 years ago in 1959, was based on the high-banked oval at the Ford Proving Grounds near the motor city of Detroit.

The track is one of the largest on the Sprint Cup circuit of 2.5 miles in length and is a 500-mile, 200-lap race.

If there is rain in the Daytona area, NASCAR has found a way to dry the track quicker.

They’ll use a new drying system which can improve by 80%. It can dry the track in 30 minutes instead of years past when it would take 2 1/2 hours.
