The past two years, Danica Patrick had been trying to learn how to drive the stock cars of NASCAR with barely any success.

She said it was hard to do both series, the IRL and NASCAR at the same time.

In 2012, she has no more excuses in making the transition, as she will be driving in NASCAR fulltime.

The former IndyCar star will be competing in the Nationwide series fulltime for JR Motorsports.

She’ll also be racing 10 Sprint Cup events for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Her teammate in the Nationwide Series will be Aric Almirola.

The upcoming Daytona 500 will have a record purse of #19 million and the winner of the biggest race in NASCAR’s season-opening race will take home $1.4 million.

Daytona president Joie Chitwood and the Daytona International Speedway announced on Wednesday that there will be a $200,000 bonus for the driver leading halfway through the race.

There is a catch.

The “Daytona 500 Mid-Race Leader Award” will not automatically be awarded if the race is under a caution at lap 100. The bonus money will then be held and paid to the driver leading the race at the conclusion of the fifth consecutive green flag lap following the caution.

Danica Patrick has been guaranteed a spot in the upcoming Daytona 500 race due to a partnership with Tommy Baldwin Racing.

She will drive the #10 Chevrolet in 10 Sprint Cup Series races in 2012. The # 10 car will start the season with the points Dave Blaney earned in 2011 in the number-36 car.

Teams can transfer or sell points to another team if they want and Tony Stewart of Stewart-Haas Racing acquired them for Patrick to run in the Daytona 500 race which will take place on February 26. It is the season-opening race for NASCAR.

With Blaney finishing 33rd in points in 2011, his car was guaranteed a spot in the starting field in the first five races of this season.

When Patrick is not racing, the #10 car will be driven by David Reutimann in 26 races.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame welcomed its most diverse class on Friday night.

Dale Inman became the first crew chief inducted into the hall. He was introduced by Richard Petty, a seven-time NASCAR champion and a member of the first hall class.

Inman was Petty’s crew chief for all eight titles and won an eighth with Terry Labonte.

The third Hall of Fame class also included team owner Glen Wood, three-time NASCAR champions Darrell Waltrip and Cale Yarborough and modified driver Richie Evans, who was killed in a 1985 accident at Martinsville Speedway.
