COLUMBUS, O. — The Columbus Crew over the years have been one of the best home teams in Major League Soccer.

But during the current season, they’ve lost games, tied games while losing points at home. They even went 7 1/2 quarters without scoring a goal before Saturday night’s game.

Trailing the Houston Dynamo, 1-0, the Crew received a break. Chad Barson, making his first start of the season, was hauled down on his way to the goal in the box by Andrew Driver. That meant a penalty kick was in the offering.

Federico Higuain was called on to do his specialty and he tied the game on the penalty kick in the 69th minute to make it 1-1. That goal ended the beforementioned scoring drought at home, 294 minutes. The last goal at home was on April 27 against DC United, also scored by Higuain on a penalty kick.

The Dynamo’s goal was scored by Wayne Creavalle in the 31st minute, his third of the campaign.

* This was Tyson Wahl’s 12th start of the season, fourth most in his career

* The Crew has scored only 5 goals in the first half all season

* Columbus is 4-2-9 vs. the Dynamo all-time

* After the Crew plays at Philadelphia on June 5, they’ll have 10 days off before their home match against Montreal on June 15

* Houston is 6-4-4 on the season, 2-2-3 on the road

* The Dynamo are in the top 10 in the MLS in defense, allowing only 13 goals all season

* After Saturday night’s game at Columbus, the Dynamo will have 2 1/2 weeks off before their June 19 match at Montreal

But in Cincinnati last week, she finally won to earn a check for $385.000 and became at age 30, the oldest woman to win the tournament across the street from Kings Island amusement park at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Li Na, who also goes by Na Li, rallied from a very poor start to run talented German Angelique Kerber off the tennis court, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the final round.

A coaching change has certainly helped Li Na. She recently began working with Carlos Rodriguez, the former coach for Justine Henin.
