The Duke Blue Devils, the only team who have beaten Ohio State this year, has replaced Indiana as the Number-1 team in the AP Top 25 poll.

Michigan and Syracuse each moved up one place to second and third respectively. Following them in the top 10 are Arizona, Louisville, Indiana, Ohio State, Florida, Kansas and Illinois.

The Blue Devils have reached #1 at least once in a record 16 seasons under head coach Mike Krzyzewski, and has played more games as the Number-1 ranked team in his 33 seasons (209) than as an unranked team (141).

Jim Boeheim, long-time head coach at Syracuse University, just keeps adding milestones to his long resume.

The latest is one that not even he could’ve imaged when he first took the job during the 1976-1977 season.

#3 Syracuse held on to beat the Detroit Titans 72-68 Monday night in the Gotham Classic, allowing the likeable Boeheim to become just the third Division I men’s basketball coach to reach 900 wins, joining Hall of Fame coaches Mike Krzyzewski and Bobby Knight.

The 68-year-old Boeheim, in his 37th year at his alma mater, has a record of 900-304, Krzyzewski has 936 wins and Knight ended his career at 902.

The Orangemen upped their record to 10-0 on the season as James Southerland scored 22 points to lead the team. Syracuse also increased its home winning streak to 30 games, which is currently longest in the nation.

Detroit dropped to 6-5 on the season.

In attendance last night was NBA Hall of Famer and Detroit mayor Dave Bing, who was the college roommate and teammate of Boeheim’s and another Hall of Famer, Roosevelt Bouie, a player from Boeheim’s very first team in 1976-77. All told, 17,902 fans at the Carrier Dome witnessed a historical college basketball event.

The university gave Boeheim a jersey encased in glass with the number 900 emblazoned on it.

Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade told USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and Olympic head coach Mike Krzyzewski some news they did not want to hear, but probably expected.

Wade is going to need surgery on his troublesome left knee and will not play in the upcoming London Olympics.

Wade and the Heat recently won their second NBA championship.

Fans in the Columbus area and Ohio, get ready, because you’ll get to see a rarity next season. The Duke Blue Devils and Coach K will be coming to town to play the Buckeyes.

Ohio State and Duke have won six conference titles in the past six seasons between them.

The game has been scheduled for November 29 in Value City Arena. It will be Duke’s first game in Columbus in 47 years and only the sixth between the programs. The tipoff time and TV network details will be worked out later.

Duke and Ohio State have played five times, and the Blue Devils have won three times, including the most-recent meeting in the 2002 ACC-Big Ten Challenge in Greensboro, North Carolina.
