Browns to stay with QB’s Weedan, McCoy & Wallace for awhile

The Cleveland Browns have no intention of moving any of their quarterbacks from a year ago, Colt McCoy or Seneca Wallace, according to team president Mike Holmgren.

It has been obvious since the drafting of former Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden, that the team favors him but are not saying so publicly.

The two quarterbacks from 2011, or at least one of them are expected to be the backup to the rookie.

Holmgren did say that it could be possible to keep all three quarterbacks due to the injury factor.

The fans and media of the Cleveland Browns have said all along that the team needs an offensive coordinator above all else.

It was evident during several games this year that the team was scrambling around to calls plays at the last minute and got plays into the huddle late.

Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said recently that he would begin a search for an offensive coordinator and is willing to forgo all play calling and just oversee the entire team as most NFL coach’s do. But only if he gets the right guy.

Although Shurmur offered no names, there are a couple of people he could hire due to past experiences. Brad Childress, whom Shurmur worked with on Andy Reid’s staff in Philadelphia and Mike Sherman, a former assistant with Mike Holmgren with Green Bay.

Holmgren says McCoy is Browns starting QB

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren told a Seattle radio station last week that Colt McCoy will be the team’s starting quarterback.

The news was not shocking, but such announcements are usually made by the head coach.

Holmgren said that with Colt at the helm, he expects the team to win more games before he is satisfied with the overall progress.

The Browns president also said the team went from being one of the oldest NFL teams to one of the youngest. Holmgren says that they lost 331 years by subtracting veterans for younger players.

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren said he wanted to find a head coach that had ties to him and general manager Tom Heckert.

He found his man, in Pat Shurmur.

The 45-year-old has never been a head coach at any level.

Shurmur received a four-year deal worth about $11.25 million. He had been the offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams the past two seasons.

Before St. Louis, Shurmur spent 10 years in Philadelphia as an assistant under Andy Reid, one of Holmgren’s most successful coaching protege’s.
