Joey Logano on the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Michigan Pure 400 race

Joey Logano had one of the fastest qualifying speeds in NASCAR Sprint Cup history on Friday, capturing the pole for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 race.

Sunday’s race will be at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Logano’s speed of 203.949 was the ninth fastest by a pole winner in the circuit’s history and the fastest since Bill Elliott at Talladega, Alabama on April 30, 1987.

The 23-year-old Logano, 2009 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year, has 2 wins in the series with 52 Top 10 finishes and 6 poles.

Biffle takes advantage of Johnson’s car stalling to win Pure Michigan 400 race

 

Greg Biffle is the lastest winner on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit.

The driver of the Number-16 3M Ford held of Brad Keselowski in a green-white-checkered flag finish to win Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan.

The win was Biffle’s second of the 2012 season and the first for Roush Fenway Racing in four years at the hometown track of team owner Jack Roush.

Jimmie Johnson looked as if he was heading for his first win at Michigan after passing Keselowski with 10 laps remaining. But the motor in Johnson’s Lowe’s #48 Chevrolet stopped running on the backstretch with five laps to go in the race.

With the victory, Biffle took the points lead away from Johnson.

NASCAR PREVIEW RACE #15: Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway today

The NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule moves into Brooklyn, Michigan for a Father’s Day race, the Quicken Loans 400 on TNT at 1:00 p.m.

The capacity crowd of 84,000 will see a 400-mile race on the 2-mile long track which consists of 200 laps on a track that was repaved after the August 2011 race.

Michigan International Speedway is a wide, saucer-shaped racing track surface enables drivers to decide their groove(s) and emphasizes pit stops and fuel mileage.

RECAPPING THE HELUVA GOOD! SOUR CREAM DIPS 400 RACE:

Denny Hamlin defended his title, taking the lead on a restart with five laps remaining and holding off Matt Kenseth by 0.28 seconds for his first win of the season.

Kyle Busch, Paul Menard and Carl Edwards rounded out the top five.

Greg Biffle led the race for a high of 68 laps but ended up finishing 15th.

In the last 10 races at Michigan, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart have each won 2 apiece.

Harvick wins Trucks race at Michigan

Kevin Harvick drove past Mark Martin and Parker Kligerman on the inside to take the lead and hang on to win the NASCAR Trucks series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan.

Harvick drove into the clear just before the other two drivers brushed up against each other, starting a five car wreck.

Harvick held off Timothy Peters. It was his second consecutive win in the series and the 11th of his career.

NASCAR PREVIEW RACE #25: Michigan International Speedway, Michigan 400

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series moves back to the state of Michigan for the second time this summer for the Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

The race starts at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN.

The 400-mile race will take 200 laps to complete.

MIS is situated on a 1,400-acre site and has a wide, saucer-shaped racing surface which enables drivers to emphasize pit stops and fuel mileage.

The Carfax 400 results from 2010, had Kevin Harvick using old tires and leading the final 11 laps. Harvick held off Denny Hamlin for the win. The Roush Fenway Racing Fords had a very strong run and day, finishing third through fifth with Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth.
