The Oklahoma City Thunder will be without the services of center Kendrick Perkins for six weeks due to surgery on his left groin.

The 29-year-old Perkins was injured during the February 20 game against the Miami Heat. He did not play on Sunday against the LA Clippers.

The 6’10, 270-pound Perkins was drafted out of Clifton J. Ozen High School in Beaumont, Texas in the spring of 2003 by the Memphis Grizzlies.

He led Ozen High to four consecutive district championships and one state championship during his high school career. Averaging 27.5 points, 16.4 rebounds and 7.8 blocked shots a game as a Senior, he led Ozen to a 33–1 record, with the only loss being a 66–54 setback to Fort Worth Dunbar in the state 4A championship game.

In the summer of 2009, nobody wanted Zach Randolph. He was considered unwanted by just about every NBA team except the Memphis Grizzlies and they’re glad he’s on their team.

Randolph scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Grizzlies advanced to the Western Conference semifinals for the first time, while making NBA history in eliminating the #1 seeded San Antonio Spurs, 99-91 Friday night in Memphis.

The Grizzlies became the just the second #8 seed to eliminate a #1 seed since the NBA expanded the opening round to a best-of-seven series. Next up for Memphis, is the Oklahoma City Thunder in the semifinals.

Memphis had been the NBA franchise best known for empty seats and the unenviable mark for playoff futility at 0-12 after being swept in their first three appearances.

Randolph took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 of the Grizzlies’ 29 points including the go-ahead-to-stay hook shot at 81-80.

Cavaliers beat Grizzlies behind J.J. Hickson & Mo Williams

J.J. Hickson, wearing bright yellow basketball shoes which looked like bananas, played his best game of the season to lead the Cavs to a 92-86 win over the Memphis Grizzlies before a sellout crowd at Quicken Loans Arena.

Mo Williams led the way with 25 points and 12 points. He and Hickson led the team down the stretch.

Hickson scored 16 points with 5 rebounds.

Williams took over in the third quarter, which has been a bug-a-boo period this year for the Cavs. He scored 12 points, including two three-point goals as Cleveland outscored the Grizzlies 30-16. The Cavs defense limited the Memphis team to 7-of-20 shooting from the floor.
