The Columbus Clippers ended their homestand with a 10:35 a.m. start against the Durham Bulls.

Usually these early morning starts of 10:35, 11:35 produce error-filled, all-offense for both teams.

But Tuesday game was played to the best by both teams.

Clippers second baseman Jason Kipnis had a two-run homer and a double in a 5-3 win over Durham to complete the four-game series sweep.

The Clippers are in first place in the IL West Division with a league-best record of 32-14.

The Clippers pitchers were on their game as Scott Barnes (3-1), Marty Popham and Nick Hagadone (1st save) all shutdown the IL South Division leaders.

Louisville Bats humble Clippers, 10-2

For the second time in as many days, the Columbus Clippers were overwhelmed, shutdown or uninspired, as they lost 10-2, this time to the Louisville Bats on Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

The win by the Bats was their ninth in a row and pulled them to within 7.5 games behind Columbus in the IL West Division.

Homer Bailey held the Clippers in check over 6.2 scoreless innings of rehab work.

Danny Dorn hit his 6th home run of the year against the Clippers in the 2nd inning for a 2-0 lead. The Bats blew the game open with four runs in the 4th off Marty Popham, who struggled in his Triple-A debut.
