New Jersey Devils getting ready to celebrate 20th anniversary of 1995 Stanley Cup Champion team

The NHL’s New Jersey Devils will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 1995 Stanley Cup Championship on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8, 2015.

More than 20 players and coaches will reunite during those days for festivities at the Prudential Center.

The weekend gets underway on Saturday with an alumni charity game featuring the players of the 1995 Stanley Cup winning title team.

Memebers of the franchise’s first Stanley Cup team will then be honored on Sunday in a special ceremony prior to the Devils game against Metropolitan Division rival Philadelphia Flyers at 5:00 PM.

The coach of the 1995 team was Jacques Lemaire. Some of his top players included: Bill Guerin, Bobby Holik, Claude Lemieux, Martin Brodeur and Scott Niedermayer.

NHL ‘Three Stars of the Week, Niemi, Hedberg & Hemsky

The NHL has selected its ‘Three Stars of the Week’. They are San Jose Sharks goaltender Antii Niemi, New Jersey Devils goaltender Johan Hedberg and Edmonton Oilers right wing Ales Hemsky for the week ending February 20.

First Star, Niemi posted a 3-0-0 record, 0.98 goals against average, .963 save percentage and one shutout as the Sharks (33-21-6) climbed to fourth place in the Western Conference standings.

Niemi stopped 78 of 81 shots last week.

The 27-year-old native of Vantaa, Finland has started each of the Sharks’ past 15 games, posting an 11-2-1 record in that span.

Second Star, Hedberg posted a 3-0-0 record, 1.00 goals-against average, .956 save percentage and one shutout, helping the Devils (25-30-4) push their second half of the season record to an NHL-best 15-1-2.

Hedberg stopped 65 of 68 shots last week.

He has won each of his six starts since Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur suffered a knee sprain on February 6 at Montreal.

Third Star, Hemsky led all scorers last week with seven points (four goals, three assists) as the Oilers (19-32-8) won three straight games.

The 27-year-old Pardubice, Czech Republic leads the Oilers in scoring with 40 points (13 goals, 27 assists) in 42 games. He is seven points shy of 400 for his career (113-280-393).

Martin Brodeur posts career shutout #112 as Devils beat Montreal

The New Jersey Devils have two wins this season due to Martin Brodeur’s ability to shut teams out.

Brodeur made 29 saves for his 112th career shutout and Jason Arnott had a goal and an assist to lead New Jersey to a 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night in Montreal.

The NHL’s career leader in wins and shutouts protected the 2-0 lead against a good Montreal team to post his 604th win.

Brodeur also stopped 24 shots against Buffalo on October 13 which resulted in a 1-0 victory.

Brodeur is 39-16-5 against Montreal in his career with nine shutouts, the most he has had against an opponent outside of the Atlantic Division. He has 10 shutouts against the Flyers and nine against the Islanders.

Dan Carcillo Philadelphia (nhl)

Dan Carcillo scored 3:35 into overtime to give the Flyers a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night and a 2-1 advantage in the Eastern Conference series.

Carcillo banged in a rebound off Mike Richards’ shot for his first goal of the postseason. The Flyers pounded goalie Martin Brodeur all game and outshot the Devils 6-1 in the brief overtime. The game was in Philadelphia.


Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist, Evgeni Malkin scored his third playoff goal, and Pittsburgh beat Ottawa on the road, 4-2 to take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference  series.

Devils shutout Atlanta as Martin Brodeur wins 600th game

New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur says that win number 600 is no big deal. He says, “A win’s a win”.

The veteran goalie reached that milestone with another shutout of the Atlanta Thrashers 3-0 Tuesday night in the Philips Arena in Atlanta.

New Jersey moved into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division and second place in the Eastern Conference. The 37-year-old Brodeur improveed to 10-2-2 against Atlanta.

The game was also the first time that Ilya Kovulchuk returned to Atlanta to play against his former team. He was traded on February 4.


* The Atlanta Thrashers announced two team awards Center Marty Reasoner was voted best team player by teammates.

* Johan Hedberg accumulated the most points from being named a star, one of the three stars of the game voting after games.
