OSU hockey season ends after Lake Superior sweep in CCHA playoffs

The Ohio State men’s hockey team ended its first season under head coach Mark Osiecki with a 15-18-4 record.

Two third-period goals were not enough for the Buckeyes, as Lake Superior State won 3-2 in the first round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs.

The Lakers (12-15-9) had built a 3-0 lead before Sergio Somma scored a goal in the third period and Danny Dries scored another goal in the final stanza but the rally fell short.

Schneider leads hockey Buckeyes over #8 Irish on Friday

Cory Schneider had three assists Friday night as a 6-1 win over #8 Notre Dame at Value City Arena.

Ohio State is improving every game. Their record is 13-9-2 overall, 8-7-2-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and have won seven games in its last nine games.

The Fighting Irish drop to 15-9-3, 12-6-1-1 in the CCHA.

It has taken all of the Buckeyes several games to get use to the demanding  coaching style of Mark Osiecki and his new staff but it is finally sinking in.

Cal Heeter made 35 saves in goal for Ohio State.

Ohio State men’s splits weekend series at Western Michigan

Ohio State’s men’s hockey team rebounded from a Friday loss, with a shootout win over the Western Michigan Broncos, 3-2 in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association game Saturday night in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Jeff McNeil of the Buckeyes tied the score at 2-2 in the third period with his first career goal.

Goaltender Cal Heeter made 32 saves and stopped two in the shootout.

The Buckeyes under new coach Mark Osiecki are making progress at 12-9-2 overall, 7-7-2-2 in the CCHA.

Ohio State men’s hockey beats Alabama-Huntsville

The Ohio State men’s hockey team is slowly but surely picking up new head coach Mark Osiecki’s style.

Led by Peter Boyle who scored two goals, the Buckeyes scored four goals in the third period to defeat Alabama-Huntsville 6-2 Friday night in Value City Arena.

Ohio State loses CCHA opener at Ferris State, 2-1

C.J. Severyn scored a goal for the Buckeyes, but it wasn’t enough as Ferris State beat Ohio State, 2-1 Friday night in Big Rapids, Michigan.

Nate Henning and Kyle Bonis each scored goals during the second period leading the way for Ferris State in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association opener for both schools.

Ferris State goaltender Pat Nagle stopped 25 shots to help his team advance to 4-1-0.
