Browne bests O’Meara in Toledo event

2005 PGA Tour comeback player of the year Olin Browne earned a three-shot win over Mark O’Meara in the United States Senior Open in Toledo, Ohio.

The 52-year-old Browne’s closed the tourney with an even-par 71 which followed rounds of 64, 69 and 65 and left him at 15-under-par 269.

After a bogey dropped him into a tie with O’Meara (72), he played the last 10 holes in 1 under and O’Meara made two costly bogeys.

Browne, is a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles, California. He turned pro in 1984 and has eight pro wins.

Japan’s Murota grabs lead in Senior PGA in Louisville

The Senior PGA Championship at Valhalla Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky was delayed 90-minutes at the start of the round, but Kiyoshi Murota of Japan did not let that slow him down.

Murota shot a 6-under-66 to grab the first-round lead in the weather-plagued tournament.

Murota holds the lead over alternate Trevor Dodds by one-shot, with Mark O’Meara was another shot back after shooting a 68.

Another delay in the first round lasted more than 3 hours with half the field still on the course at darkness.

Langer leads Naples, Florida tourney

Bernhard Langer shot a 6-under 68 to lead the Champions Tour ACE Group Classic in Naples, Florida, by four shots heading into the final round.

Langer matched the tournament’s 36-hole record at 14-under 130.

There are four golfers tied for second-place, Mark Calcavecchia, Fred Funk, Mark O’Meara and Ross Cochran.

Cochran leads Champions Tour event in Florida

Russ Cochran and Bernhard Langer both shot 8-under-par 64′s to share the lead after the first round of the ACE Group Classic in Naples, Florida.

Cochran was the Tour’s 2009 Rookie of the Year and won twice in 2010.

Mark O’Meara is third after a 65 that included holeing out from a greenside bunker for an eagle.

Mark Calcavecchia, Keith Fergus and Olin Browne are tied for fourth at 5 under-par.

Nicklaus, Watson win Champions tour event

The scene was Kaanapali, Hawaii where Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson defended their Skins Game title successfully, by finishing with seven skins for $310,000 to beat out Mark O’Meara abd Bernhard Langer by $10,000.

Nicklaus and Watson took five skins and $250,000 on the par-3 17th hole.

Nicklaus used a 6-iron from 155 yards to 10 feet, while Watson made the birdie putt.
