Tulane football coach Toledo resigns
UTEP beat Tulane University 44-7 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome last Saturday and the fans in New Orleans chanted “fire coach Toledo.”
Earlier this week, Tulane head coach Bob Toledo met with athletic director Rick Dickson and the two mutually agreed that the football coach should resign.
Dickson has named Mark Hutson as the interim coach for Tulane’s remaining six games. Hutson also was the interim head coach at Eastern Illinois in 2006. Hutson has been the Green Wave’s offensive line coach for all five years with Toledo. He led Eastern Illinois to a co-Ohio Valley Conference championship and an 8-5 record in his season as interim head coach and he has also been an assistant at Tulsa and Arkansas.
Toledo, who is 65, a former head coach at UCLA, took over the Tulane Green Wave in 2007. Eventhough his record was 13-35 in his first four years, Toledo received a two-year extension after last season in the hope his recruiting efforts would pay off with a winning season in 2011, but the team is 2-5 and has been blown out by Tulsa, Duke, Army and UTEP.
