*The City South Division is Eastmoor Academy, Walnut Ridge, Marion-Franklin, Independence, West, Briggs and South.

*Located in Columbus, Ohio near German Village near downtown.

*Head coach is Michael Bates, whose younger brother, Jason Bates is the head coach at rival school Walnut Ridge.

*School has students from Kindergarden through Grade 12.

*Will be getting a brand new high school in the future.

 


COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE: Tucker shot in final seconds gives Africentric key win against Red Devils

The Africentric Nubians are usually clutch late in the game and Friday’s road game at Marion-Franklin was no exception.

Cyquil Tucker scored on a shot in the lane with eight seconds remaining in the game, to lead the Nubians to a 56-55 win over the Red Devils in a City League South Division contest.

The Nubians keep control of first place with the win in South at 5-0, 7-1 overall.

Tucker scored 16 points to pace Africentric.

Tony Anderson led the Red Devils in scoring with 16 points, had a chance to win the game, but his three-point attempt failed as the buzzer sounded.

Marion-Franklin falls to 3-2, 2-2.

Ramon Spears, head coach of Columbus South, has his Bulldogs in the thick of the South Division race with Africentric, Eastmoor Academy, Walnut Ridge and Marion-Franklin.

South went on the road Friday night and defeated the high-scoring West Cowboys, 99-72.

The key quarter was the second, as South had a 36-7 run.

South improves to 5-2, 2-2.

The Bulldogs were led by Oumar Diop with 25 points and Chris Byrd with 18.

West was led by Charles Holland with 27 and Ed Golden with 21.

 

COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE FOOTBALL, Week 4: Walnut Ridge dominates Aftricentric, 72-0

Walnut Ridge traveled to City League South Division foe Africentric and came away with an easy 72-0 triumph.

The Scots, one of the top programs in the South Division along with Marion-Franklin, Eastmoor Academy, Independence and West, scored 41 first-half points to put the game out of reach early.

Jaishon Johnson scored four touchdowns for a Scots’ team which carved out eight scoring plays of 38 yards or longer.

The Nubians, who were 2-8 in 2011, have a low-number of students participating in football. They drop to 0-4, 0-1.

COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE FOOTBALL: Marion-Franklin loses at Pickerington Central

The best game in Columbus for Division II schools was City League South Division member Marion-Franklin visiting the Pickerington Central Tigers of the Ohio Capital Conference.

There’s talent on both team’s with Jaron Dukes and Corry Benson for the Red Devils.

Taco Charlton and Greg Basalyga for the Tigers.

Central’s head coach Jay Sharrett graduated the largest senior class in school history last year after the team earned a Division 1 State title game berth.

Before a standing room only crowd, Central  beat the Red Devils, 45-24.

Both teams are 1-1 to start 2012.

Marion-Franklin, who has made the OHSAA playoffs eight straight years, could not stop turning the ball over with three turnovers.

The Red Devils had a tough time stopping Tigers WR Charlton who is 6’6.

Joe Alverson was the big, playmaker for the Red Devils. He caught a 10-yard TD pass; a 2-point conversion and on a 62-yead drivers.
