PRESS RELEASE COURTESY OF DILLON HORNSBY

With the graduation of Roy Alexander, Fred Hardgrove, Isaiah Brooks, Allasane Kah, Malik Dime, Kai Turner and Adam McCall, most people felt that Walnut Ridge’s hold on the South Division the past two years would end.

Don’t count on it!

There is a new cast of characters leading the Scots to a third straight Columbus City League South Division title, Grant Harris, Rob Wheelwright and Dymiere Finch.

Harris with 28 points and Wheelwright with 25 led the Scots to a 3-0 record and 2-0 in the South with an 86-78 win over improving Columbus West Friday night.

The Cowboys (2-2, 0-2) were led by Ed Golden with a career-high 33 points and Charles Holland scored 23 points.

HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE: Walnut Ridge too athletic, too quick & deep for Worthington Kilbourne in slowdown game

Roy Alexander led Scots with 12 points (megasportsnews.com)

Worthington Kilbourne head coach Tom Souder felt his team could play with the Walnut Ridge Scots in last Wednesday night’s matchup in the OHSAA Division I Second round matchup at Reynoldsburg Summit Campus.

Souder felt if they slowed the game down, kept the turnovers down and play good defense, they could give themselves a chance to win.

The Wolves were in the game until they started to pass over the Scots’ defense instead of under it and they only scored 11 points in the first half which led to a 43-21 defeat.

The Buckeye Muffler Player of the Game was Roy Alexander of the Scots, who  scored five of his 12 points in a 15-4 third quarter to lead second-seeded Walnut Ridge, who is 20-1 into the District semi-finals this coming Wednesday night at 6 pm. against Mount Vernon, who upset fellow OCC member Upper Arlington, 53-42 the game before the Scots and Wolves.

Kilbourne ends the season at 12-10.

The Scots also received production from Adam McCall with 8 points and Malik Dime with 6 points. They committed 9 turnovers and were 5-of-8 on free throws.

The Wolves of the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division, could never get untracked offensively and committed 16 turnovers and were 3-of-7 from the free throw line.

The only Kilbourne player who could get free offensively from the taller Scots was Connor Dahn with 10 points.

The South Division champion Walnut Ridge comes into the game at 18-0 and winning their second division title in a row. They want revenge after losing to Northland last year in the City title game also on HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE.

The Scots are led by head coach Jason Bates and feature a tall lineup of Kai Turner, Allasane Kah, Malik Dime and Roy Alexander.

Northland Vikings

The Northland Vikings under new coach Sean Taylor continued to roll this season and are 18-1 overall on the season. The only blemish was losing to Huntington Prep of West Virginia.

The Vikings have continued to be the kingpin in the City League North, winning an incredible 87 games in a row dating to February of 2006.

Northland features three division I recruits, Jalen Robinson (Dayton), Devon Scott (Dayton) and Jordan Potts (Greensboro). But they also have Ke’Chaun Lewis, Armani Towns and a solid bench.

The game is sold out at Columbus East High School as all 1,200 seats were gone in just a few hours.

This game should be a high-scoring, slam-dunking affair!

HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE: Walnut Ridge presses Briggs to death in rout

Isaiah Brooks scored 8 points for Walnut Ridge

The Walnut Ridge Scots are the team to beat in the Columbus City League’s South Division.

They will get every team’s best shot and best game.

Last Tuesday on HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE, sponsored by Swift Tax Services, they played the Briggs Bruins under head coach Tony Rice. Most people felt that Rice’s team could press the Scots and keep the game close. But the Scots won the game going away, 70-43.

The Bruins did keep the game close for awhile as the halftime score was 31-25, Walnut Ridge.

It was amazing that Briggs stayed in the game even in the second quarter, as the vaunted Scots’ fullcourt press caused Briggs to commit 11 turnovers in that same quarter but the Bruins stayed in because they slowed the game down on offense and made just enough shots.

However, a team like the Scots know how to win a game.

In the third quarter, Briggs only had 7 turnovers but they scored just 8 points while Walnut Ridge was scoring at will with 22 to push the lead out to 53-33 and the game was basically over.

The Scots received a nice distribution of points led by Adam McCall with 10 points, Roy Alexander and Fred Hardgrove with 9 each, Isaiah Brooks and Malik Dime each scoring eight.

The Buckeye Muffler and Brake Player of the Game was Walnut Ridge point guard Hardgrove.

The Scots improved to 7-0, 4-0 on the season, while Briggs dropped to 6-3, 3-2.

Briggs was led in scoring by Traevon Hester with 9 points.
