Temple snaps losing streak with MAC win over Miami Redhawks

The Temple Owls snapped their two-game losing streak with a 24-21 squeaker over the Miami University Redhawks in Philadelphia.

The Owls upped their record to 6-4, 4-3 MAC East, while Miami drops to 4-6, 3-3 in the MAC East.

Chris Coyer made his first career start at QB and was 10 of 19 for 92 yards and a touchdown. He also ran 97 yards on the ground with another TD.

Running back Matt Brown rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown to support the Temple offensive attack.

Miami wide receiver Nick Harwell caught 15 passes for 229 yards, both are school records.

Redhawks QB Zac Dysert passed for 364 yards and three touchdowns, completing 28 of 37 passes.

Mavunga, Ballard lead RedHawks to win over Akron

Julian Mavunga scored a career-high 25 points and Antonio Ballard added 19 points, 10 rebounds and Nick Winbush scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the leading the Miami RedHawks to a 84-76 win over Akron in Mid-American Conference action.

Miami led at the half 39-28 and improves to 8-10 but 3-1 in the MAC East.

Akron falls to 10-8 overall, and a disappointing 1-3 in the MAC East.

Ohio Bobcats run into buzzsaw at Kent State; MAC title chase gone

The Ohio Bobcats have been the host team in the Mid-American Conference the past two months.

Everybody felt that they would breeze to a win at Kent, Ohio on Friday, against the Kent State Golden Flashes.

Kent State was playing it’s final game under head coach Doug Martin, who announced his resignation last Monday.

The Bobcats did not play or look like a MAC title contender as they fell at Dix Stadium, 28-6.

Quarterback Boo Jackson was sacked seven times, threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles.

The Bobcats lost a chance to play in the MAC championship game as the East Division champion. But instead, their arch-rival Miami RedHawks will represent the East against the MAC West champion Northern Illinois on Friday in Detroit, Michigan.

The Bobcats end the season at 8-4, 6-2 in the MAC East.

Ohio Bobcats win at Temple; victory streak at seven

The Ohio University Bobcats have now won seven games in a row with their recent 31-23 victory at Temple.

Vince Davidson rushed for two touchdowns as the Bobcats held off a late Owls rally.

Ohio, from the Mid-American Conference has a record of 8-3, 6-1 in the league, moved one game closer to the Eastern Division championship. They can clinch by beating Kent State on November 26.

The Bobcats held a 21-point lead at 31-10, but Temple (8-3, 5-2 MAC East) scored very quickly. The Owls then recovered an onside kick and scored again. Both of the Temple touchdowns came on touchdown passes from Mike Girardi to Mike Campbell.

Ohio clinched the game for good when Travis Carrie recovered the second onside kick by Temple.

Miami RedHawks are bowl-eligible with win over Bowling Green

The improving Miami RedHawks football team under 2nd year coach Mike Haywood are now bowl eligible for the first time since 2005.

Senior Trevor Cook kicked a 33-yard field goal in very dense fog with no time on the clock to give the RedHawks a 24-21 win over host Bowling Green.

With the victory, Miami improves to 6-4 overall, 5-1 in the Mid-American Conference East Division and into a tie with Ohio and Temple for first place.

Bowling Green falls to 2-8, 1-5 in the MAC East with the loss.
