Eventhough the Ohio State football team has only had three practices this spring under new coach Urban Meyer, there have been some players missing from the drills and one of those is middle linebacker Storm Klein.

Defensive Coordinator and linebackers coach Luke Fickell told members of the media on Saturday that Klein has been limited in practice due to a sprained knee suffered during winter conditioning.

The team’s fourth practice is Monday, April 2 and Klein is expected back to a normal practice routine.

Klein was a starter in 2011 but faces competition from sophomore Curtis Grant.

Fickell said that the best three will start on the field at linebacker.

Noah Spence’s dad, Greg, said that his son only needed one recruiting visit and that would be Ohio State.

He was right. Noah and his parents made the trip from Harrisburg, Pa., on Saturday and were pleased with the visit and he committed to new head coach Urban Meyer’s 2012 recruiting class.

Spence is ranked ninth as the best overall prospect in the nation by rivals.com and is the first five-star prospect in a class of 19.

The Buckeyes recruiting group led by Urban Meyer with defensive coaches Luke Fickell, Mike Vrabel and Taver Johnson traveled to Hershey, Pa., on Friday night to witness Spence and his high-school team, Harrisburg McDevitt, play in the Class AAA state championship game.

Pitt interested in Fickell as a head coach

There may be a chance that Luke Fickell will not be a member of the new football staff that Urban Meyer is putting together.

Media outlets around the Pittsburgh area have been reporting that Fickell is a candidate for and is interested in the Pittsburgh Panthers head coaching position.

The job became open when the unpopular Todd Graham left recently for Arizona State.

Media reports say that Fickell interviewed for the job last Friday. Fickell was in the Pennsylvania along with new Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and linebackers coach Mike Vrabel to attend the PIAA championship game in Hershey to see the play of five-star defensive end Noah Spence of Bishop McDevitt High School.

Meyer rumors continue; but no offer or deal says ex-Gator coach

There have been rumored reports since last weekend that former Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer will be the next coach at Ohio State.

Websites, newspapers, radio and television stations around Columbus, Ohio, home of Ohio State have reported that Meyer has agreed in principle to become the Buckeyes coach next week.

Meyer is continuing to say there has been no offer or no deal accepted.

The Buckeyes are currently being coached by interim coach Luke Fickell, who will lead the team against the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday at noon.

OSU is currently at 6-5, their worst season since Jim Tressel’s first year in 2001 at 7-5. If they lose Saturday, they’ll be 6-6, the worst record since John Cooper’s team posted that record in 1999.

Meyer is no stranger to Ohio or the Buckeyes, having grown up in Ashtabula, grew up a Buckeyes fan, worked on Earle Bruce’s staff in the 1980′s as has such admiration of Woody Hayes, the legendary coach, that he has his picture displayed in his home.

Meyer has won two national titles in 2006 and 2008 while at Florida.

He is currently employed by ESPN as an game and studio analyst.
