The Cleveland Indians have added catching depth to their roster with the recent signing of free-agent Matt Pagnozzi to a Minor League contract which includes a non-roster invitation to attend Spring Training with the Major League team.
The Indians have Carlos Santana and Lou Marson on the big-league level. At Triple-A Columbus, the catchers are Luke Carlin and Michel Hernandez, who’ll be invited as non-roster invitees to camp this spring in Arizona.
The 29-year-old Pagnozzi, the nephew of former major league catcher Tom Pagnozzi, appeared in 12 major league games last season combined with Colorado and Pittsburgh, batting .276 with three RBI’s overall.
In 54 Minor League games last season, Pagnozzi hit .275 with three homers and 29 RBI’s, a .337 on-base percentage.
Matt was an eighth-round pick of the Cardinals in 2003. Overall, he has played in 33 Major League games in the last three years.

The Durham Bulls are always one of the top teams in International League and they’re tough to beat.
The last three days, however, the Columbus Clippers have been able to beat them.
Columbus won on Monday night 3-2 at Huntington Park with Jeanmar Gomez getting the win; he’s 4-1.
The Bulls’ Alex Cobb (1-1) took the loss.
After a see-saw game, which saw the two teams trying to take the lead, the Clippers took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh when Cord Phelps doubled to right centerfield allowing Luke Carlin to score to make it 3-2 Clippers.

The Columbus Clippers just keep rolling on and on as the winning streak reached nine games with an 8-5 Friday night win over the Gwinnett Braves in Georgia.
The Clippers were down 5-3 and had to rally to win.
The two-out magic took place for the Clippers in the eighth inning when with a runner on, Luis Valbuena delivered in a big way for the Clippers with a two-run homer that tied the game at 5 apiece.
In the top of the ninth, the Clippers were determined to get the lead for good. Lonnie Chisenhall walked to lead off the inning. Chad Huffman was hit by a pitch. After Travis Buck sacrificed, the bases were loaded when Jason Kipnis was walked intentionally to set up an inning ending double play. Jerad Head struck out for the second out. The next batter was Luke Carlin and he promptly deposited a three-run double between the outfielders for a three-run double and the Clippers led 8-5.
Josh Judy came on in the bottom of the ninth as he successfully got his 4th save of the season. Zach Putnam earned his second win of the season (2-0) while Stephen Marek was stuck with the loss (0-2)
