If you’re a diehard United States soccer fan and you’ve noticed that something is missing from the U.S. team which is currently involved in World Cup qualifying. You’re right! A key ingredient is missing.

The missing player is Landon Donovan, who is dangerous every time he touches the ball and usually scores in international competition.

The USA will have to do without him this go round.

The 30-year-old MLS star is taking a much-needed break from soccer after he and his pro team, the Los Angeles Galaxy, won their second straight Major League Soccer title.

Donovan, is a veteran of three World Cups and the U.S. team’s career leader in goals and assists.

Omar Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Galaxy is tough to get past with the soccer ball. The reason is, at 6’5, he is not easy to move past by kicking the ball or using the head or body.

With his toughness in defending, it makes sense that he has been voted the 2011 Major League Soccer Defender of the Year.

The 23-year-old was a 2009 3rd round pick of the Galaxy in the MLS SuperDraft.

Gonzalez has dual citizenship of Mexico and the United States.

Gonzalez received 94.5 of the vote from club officials, media and players groups. Finishing second was Jamison Olave of Real Salt Lake who finished with 50.7.

The percentage totals are from all the votes added together.
