The Buckeyes and Cornhuskers will be doing battle in Lincoln, Nebraska tonight.

The two programs are among only eight in the country with 800 or more wins. Nebraska is fourth with 841 and the Buckeyes have been victorious 834 times.

Nebraska is 4-1, 0-1 in the Big Ten and ranked #14 and 15 in the latest Associated Press and USA Today polls.

The Cornhuskers lost their first game of the season last Saturday night at #7 Wisconsin, 48-17.

The Huskers started the season with wins over Chattanooga (40-7), Fresno State (42-29), Washington (51-38) and at Wyoming (38-14).

As a team Nebraska leads the nation in kickoff returns at 30.5 yards a return and ranks ninth in rushing, racking up just under 250 yards per game.

Ameer Abdullah is the nation’s best return man at 35.1 yards per kick return and the 18th with 12.0 yards per punt return.

Running back Rex Burkhead and quarterback Taylor Martinez rank second and fourth in rushing in the Big Ten with 103.2 and 96.4 yards per game, respectively.

Pelini was a four-year letterwinner as a defensive back for the Buckeyes under Earle Bruce and John Cooper from 1987 to 1990.

Pelini started in the OSU secondary his final two seasons, was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was a co-captain as a senior. Pelini received the “Bo Rein Award” as a senior, given to the teams’ most inspirational player. Pelini graduated with a degree in business administration in 1990.

Tonight’s game will mark the third time Pelini has coached against his alma mater. In 1991, the Youngstown, Ohio native was a graduate assistant for an Iowa team that beat OSU, 16-9, in Columbus. After taking the Nebraska head job in December of 2007, Pelini completed his role as defensive coordinator at LSU, helping to guide the Tigers to a 38-24 win over OSU in the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans.
