Everyone who follows the Cavaliers, media and fans, all agree that the January 5 trade with the New York Knicks that brought J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert gave the team the needed push and it has resulted in 16 wins in 18 games and the team to a 35-22 record and a definitely threat in the Eastern Conference.

Sunday afternoon, Smith and Shumpert made their first return to the Big Apple and played well in Cleveland’s 101-83 win over the Knicks.

Smith scored 17 points and Shumpert came off the bench for four points, five rebounds and seven assists.

Sunday’s game was really over early as the Cavs built up a 36-17 lead in the first quarter and a 62-38 advantage at the half. From there, it was just a matter of what the final score would be.

Cleveland’s big three pulled their weight as well.

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving each scored 18 points and Kevin Love finished with 16 points while hauling down 16 rebounds. James during the game moved past Allen Iverson and into 22nd place on the NBA career scoring list with 24,383 points.

The Knicks, who have had several losing streaks this season with a 10-45 record, have now lost seven in a row, were led by Langston Galloway with 13 points.

Miami Heat star Chris Bosh out for season with blood clots in his lungs

The Miami Heat have not had the dominating season that they experienced the past four years with LeBron James on the team. They went to the NBA Finals all of those seasons, winning two titles.

Currently, they do hold the Number 7 spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race with a not-so-hot record of 23-30.

Besides Dwayne Wade, their best player has been Chris Bosh. The 6’11, 235-pound center from Dallas, Texas, has had a solid season of 21.1 points and 7 rebounds in the first year of his five-year deal he signed last summer worth $118 million dollars.

Right now, the 30-year-old Bosh is thinking about his life instead of statistics, money and NBA titles.

The Heat announced on Saturday that his season is over due to blood clots found in one of his lungs. The problem, could’ve killed him if it had not been detected when it was. Bosh had been complaining about pain in his back and sides for several days.

There is no timetable for the All-Star forward’s return looking to next season.

The streaking-hot Cleveland Cavaliers are always trying to find ways to improve their chances of getting to the NBA Finals as the Eastern Conference champion.

The so-called experts have said that they need one more player with an inside presence and to add frontcourt depth.

They may have had a player chose them!

It has been reported by TV, Radio and Newspaper reports that former Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kendrick Perkins has signed a contract with the Cavs. The team has not announced it officially and neither has Perkins said anything about where he will end up. Although Perkins did say he would not mind playing with LeBron James. Those reports have also stated the announcement will come on Monday.

Perkins would be a good fit. The 6’10, 270-pound 30-year-old, won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008.

Perkins was waived on Saturday by the Utah Jazz, who had acquired him in a trade deadline deal with the Thunder.

There was a time when the Cleveland Cavaliers used to beat up on the Toronto Raptors.

Of course, that was during the LeBron James era.

But nowadays, the Raptors are an elite team in the NBA and the Cavaliers are rebuilding to get back to that status.

For the second time in a week, Toronto beat the Cavs. Tuesday night’s score was 99-93. The Cavs third straight loss after winning six in a row.

Leading the way for the Raptors was DeMar DeRozan with 33 points, six assists and four rebounds. Terrence Ross scored 19 points.

The Cavs were led by Kyrie Irving and the recently-acquired Spencer Hawes. Irving finished with 25 points and nine assists. Hawes, making his first start since joining the Cavs in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers five days ago, collected 15 points and 7 rebounds.
