Odom was headed to D-League, but stays with Mavericks for tonight’s game vs. Jazz

Lamar Odom

The plan on Friday announced by the Dallas Mavericks was that Lamar Odom was supposed to play at least one game in the NBA Development League and then rejoin the parent team.

Odom was going to be assigned to the Texas Legends as they played on Saturday against Frisco.

However, he was recalled by the Mavericks before tonight’s game vs. the Utah Jazz.

The Mavs need Odom due to the fact that they play nine games in 12 days, including yesterday (New Orleans) and at home tonight (Saturday) against Utah.

Odom is averaging 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 32 games with Dallas.

Odom’s last played for the Mavericks on February 20 and has missed four games overall to take care of family matters.

He came to Dallas in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The “B” Team wins the Gold medal as U.S. wins world basketball championship

When the United States basketball team headed overseas to play in the world basketball championships, everybody called them the “B” team because Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, et al. were not participating. Most media outlets were saying that they would be done after a handful of games.

The “B” team might be as good as the “A” team as far as United States basketball is concerned.

The United States won its first world basketball championship since 1994 on Sunday, beating Turkey 81-64 behind the all-world play of tournament MVP Kevin Durant. The win qualify’s the U.S. for the 2012 Olympics.

Durant scored 28 points, setting a record for the most points in the tournament by a U.S. player. He left the court with 42 seconds left in the game.

Mike Krzyzewski, the head coach finally wins a world title after previously finishing with a bronze medal in his first two attempts.

Lamar Odom chipped in with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Americans, who won the gold medal in the world championships for the fourth time.

Hedu Turkoglu of the Phoenix Suns scored 16 points for his native Turkey, which was playing for their first title. The Turks had huge support in the crowd as 90 percent of the 15,000-seat Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey was in their favor.

Lithuania beat Serbia for the bronze medal earlier on Sunday.

By scoring 38 points, Durant passed Carmelo Anthony’s single-game record of 35 points and put his tournament average at 22 ppg which is by far the best of any United States player.

Durant will lead the U.S. to its first chance at a world title since 1994. They’ll play Turkey, which beat Serbia 83-82 in the other final four matchup.

Lamar Odom and Andre Iguodala led a tough defensive effort that shutdown Lina Kleiza, the Lithuania star. He was never a factor.

compiled from staff and wire reports

Early in the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s game in Boston, Kobe Bryant was the only Lakers player scoring any points. After a timeout and a pep talk in the huddle, his teammates finally started scoring when Bryant was shut down in helping the Lakers to a 91-84 win over the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the NBA finals.

Derek Fisher (nba)

Lamar Odom, who was very quiet in two games off the bench in Los Angeles, made two baskets in the final quarter, both when the Celtics were within one possession of a tie or to go-ahead. Derek Fisher had five of his six field goals in the period and Pau Gasol added one.
