Every year in the NCAA Tournament, there are upsets waiting to happen.

Lower-seeded teams are overlooked, but sometimes those types of teams can cause matchup problems, hit a hot streak or play with high-emotion and confidence against the so-called favorite or top-seeded teams.

One of those teams include Morehead State of the Ohio Valley Conference.

In the state of Kentucky, the kingpins are Kentucky and Louisville. But there are several other good basketball teams in the state, Murray State, Morehead State to name a few.

Morehead State is located in the rural corner of northeastern Kentucky in a town of 6,000 people in Morehead.

The team often plays against Kentucky and Louisville during the regular season.

The Eagles upset the Cardinals 62-61 in the NCAA Tournament Denver’s Pepsi Center in the first round.

Morehead State’s star Kenneth Faried blocked a last-second shot attempt by Louisville’s Mike Marra, allowing the Eagles to beat the Cardinals for the first time since 1957, a span of 13 games.

The Eagles were trailing 61-59 with 23 seconds left. Demonte Harper, their senior guard was having a bad game shooting the ball from 3-point land (0-5), but he took the shot that won the game with 4.2 seconds remaining for the win. Harper, during the game was dreaming of the time as a child, playing imaginary games with the clock winding down so he could win the game on a final shot.

The Ohio State men’s basketball team had trouble trying to distance themselves against tough and scrappy Morehead State.

The Eagles pressure zone defense forced Ohio State into 16 turnovers, and NBA prospect Kenneth Faried inside helped them keep even on the boards with the Buckeyes taller players.

Faried, at 6’8 is an athletic, energetic and talented senior who is projected as a first-round pick next year, led the Eagles (2-3) with 15 points, 12 rebounds and five steals.

Morehead State stayed close until the more talented and ballyhooed Buckeyes managed to pull away late on a 15-3 run in the final 6 1/2 minutes of a 64-45 win in Value City Arena.

John Diebler scored 20 points, DeShaun Thomas 16, lead the Buckeyes to their fourth win (4-0).

David Lighty, the 5th year senior, had a bunch of hustle plays for the Buckeyes, had 11 points, seven assists and four steals.
