Cincinnati Bengals release 2014 Preseason schedule

The Cincinnati Bengals now know who they’ll be playing in the upcoming preseason.

The opposition will be the Chiefs, Jets, Cardinals and as usual, the Colts.

The schedule works this way. They’ll open at the Kansas City Chiefs and then host the New York Jets.

They’ll conclude the preseason on August 24 at the Arizona Cardinals and at home against the Indianapolis Colts on August 28.

The dates for the Chiefs and Jets games will be announced at a later date.

Bengals hire Adam Zimmer to coach defensive backs; son of DC Mike Zimmer

The Cincinnati Bengals have officially hired Adam Zimmer to be the assistant defensive backs coach.

He is the son of the Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

Zimmer has been an assistant coach with the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs, where he worked with the linebackers from 2010 to 2012.

He worked for the Saints from 2006 to 2009.

Emery hired by Bears as general manager

The Chicago Bears have hired Phil Emery as their new general manager.

He replaces Jerry Angelo, who was fired after an 8-8 season and no playoffs.

Emery comes from the Kansas City Chiefs as their director of college scouting.

Emery was an area scout for the Bears from 1998 to 2004.

Chiefs, PK Succop agree on extension

The Kansas City Chiefs and their placekicker Ryan Succop, who was the final pick of the 2009 NFL draft at #256, have agreed on a $14 million, five-year contract extension.

Succop joins a pair of other NFL kickers who have signed very rich, lucrative five-year extensions.

Billy Cundiff of the Baltimore Ravens signed an extension for $15 million last January.

Mason Crosby of the Green Bay Packers signed a deal worth $14.75 million last July.

Palmer leads Oakland past reeling Chargers

California native Carson Palmer is starting feel right at home with the Oakland Raiders.

Palmer is starting to get into rhythm with his arm and his receivers and threw two touchdown passes and Michael Bush ran wild on the ground 30 times for a season-high 157 yards and one touchdown to help the Raiders over their AFC West rivals, the San Diego Chargers in Thursday night NFL action, 24-17. The loss makes it four in a row for the Chargers.

Palmer, who was 14 of 20 for 299 yards, threw two scoring strikes to Denarius Moore, helped the Raiders to a 5-4 record and a half-game lead over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.

Philip Rivers struggled again at QB for the Chargers, passing 23 of 47 for 274 yards and was sacked six times.

Prior to Thursday night’s game, San Diego had beaten the Raiders 13 straight times.
