Josh Judy recalled from Columbus by Indians

 

The Cleveland Indians have strengthend their bullpen by recalling Columbus Clippers closer Josh Judy.

Judy begins his fourth stint with Cleveland this year going 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 3 appearances.

His first recall stint was on May 21 and made his MLB debut on May 22 against Cincinnati before being optioned back to AAA Columbus.

He was back with Cleveland from July 1-6 and August 22-23.

At Columbus, Ohio this year, Judy has a record of 6-2 with 23 saves and a 3.12 ERA (52 innings pitched, 23 runs, 18 earned runs, 25 walks, 60 strikeouts) in 50 appearances.

His 23 saves are tied for 2nd most in the International League and he did not allow a run over his last 9 appearances (7.2 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts) with the Clippers.

He’ll wear #45 for the Indians.

Grand slam by Mills gives Clippers 80th win, 7-6 over Red Sox

The Columbus Clippers, clearly the best team in the IL this season, now has 80 wins on the season thanks to one of their newer and younger players.

Beau Mills belted a grand slam with two outs in the top of the eighth inning to lead the team to a 7-5 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox in Rhode Island on Thursday night.

Columbus trailed 4-3 but were able to put two runners on second and third with no outs against Red Sox reliever Scott Atchison (6-2) in the eighth.

With one out, Travis Buck was walked intentionally.

After a strikeout for the second out of the eighth, Mills, who was having a bad road trip at 1-for-10, hit a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right field. It was his third homer since being called up from Double-A Akron on July 22.

Columbus starting pitcher Zach McAllister (10-3) allowed four runs, all in the second inning, and seven hits, with five strikeouts in seven innings. He became the third IL pitcher to reach 10 wins this season.

Josh Judy pitched a scoreless ninth for his 21st save.

Kluber pitches Clippers to win over Pawtucket, 5-2

Corey Kluber struck out a season-high 11 batters and did not allow a hit in his 6.2 innings of pitching to lead the Columbus Clippers to a 5-2 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Kluber, now 7-8 on the season, walked five and threw 113 pitches.

Columbus jumped out to a 5-0 lead early in the game.

Josh Judy came on to face the tying run in Jose Iglesias, and induced him to ground out to end the game and earn his 20th save.

Clippers leave Rochester splitting doubleheader

The Columbus Clippers left Rochester, New York with a doubleheader split on Monday evening.

Joe Martinez was dominating on the mound as he pitched the Clippers to a 2-0 win over the Red Wings in game one of the double header.

Martinez now 8-6 on the season, allowed no runs, on seven hits while striking out six and walking no one in six innings of work. Josh Judy finished up for his 19th save of the season.

Nick Hagadone drops to 4-2 on the season by losing game two in relief, 4-3.

Clippers win two at Rochester; 6-3, 4-3

 

Nick Hagadone saved game one

The Columbus Clippers won a doubleheader in Rochester on Friday night, winning a suspended game and the regularly scheduled contest.

In game one, the suspended game from June 10, Columbus held on to their 5-1 lead and won 6-3. Brett Brach won his first game as a Clipper and Nick Hagadone picked up his second save of the year.

The Clippers jumped out to a four-run lead, before holding on for a 4-3 victory.

Starter Zach McAllister coasted through six innings and ran into trouble in the seventh. Josh Judy came on in the final inning and induced Jeff Bailey to fly out to left with two runners on and picked up his 18th save.

McAllister, now 9-3, went 6.2 innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.
