DAYTON, OHIO — Members of the media and fans of the South Florida Bulls criticize the team for the way they play offense of slowing the ball down when they have the horses to play uptempo.

Head coach Stan Heath believes that slowing the game down is the way to go against the horses in the Big East.

Who’s to argue with Heath, after all, they won 20 regular season games and gained a berth in the NCAA’s FIRST FOUR.

Coach Heath’s formula worked on Wednesday night against the California Golden Bears of the Pac-12 Conference.

The Bulls ran all over the court, scoring on three’s, layups, fast breaks, free throws and offensive rebounds en route to a 65-54 win at UD Arena.

The halftime score was 36-13 USF, which was unbelievable the fans and media at the game.

Those 13 points allowed by South Florida in the first half, ties for the seventh fewest since the NCAA tournament expanded in 1985, according to info from STATS LLC.

Cal ‘s top players Justin Cobbs, Jorge Gutierrez, Allen Crabbe were all bottled up by the Bulls defense. They only player who solved it was Harper Kamp, who scored 19 points.

The Bulls were led by Victor Rudd Jr., with 15 points, followed by Anthony Collins with 12, Augustus Gilchrist chipping in with 11 and Jawanza Poland with 10.

South Florida shot the ball well all game, 66% in the first half and 57% for the game.

The crowd of 7,218 were entertained by the slam-dunking, fast-breaking, helter-skelter play of the Bulls.
