Matt Kenseth earns NASCAR Sprint Cup pole at Fontana

Matt Kenseth doesn’t think track position is important at Fontana, California’s Auto Club Speedway race but he;s glad to be leading the pack.

Kenseth earned his first pole of 2014 with a lap of 187.315 in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. It was his 12th Sprint Cup pole of his career.

Starting second will be Brad Keselowski with a 187.105. Jimmie Johnson, a five-time winner at Fontana will start third, Kevin Harvick fourth and Clint Bowyer will be fifth.

 

Joe Gibbs Racing gives Kyle Busch contract extension

Joe Gibbs Racing has announced that the organization has signed Kyle Busch to a long-term extension to continue as driver of the #18 Toyota Camry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Also, Joe Gibbs Racing will continue to sponsor #54 Monster Energy Toyota in the Nationwide Series that Busch drives.

They sponsor at least 25 races in the Nationwide Series.

Like him or hate him, there is no doubt Busch is a top-notch race car driver. In the Sprint Car Series, he has 24 wins, 141 top 10 finishes and 10 poles. In the Nationwide circuit, he has 51 wins, 163 top 10 finishes and 26 poles.

Busch also drives a NASCAR truck in the Camping World Truck Series where he has 30 wins, 81 top 10 finishes and 12 poles.

Stenhouse will drive #17 car in 2013

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has a new ride for the 2013 season.

He’ll be driving the #17 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series.

The 2011 Nationwide Series champion, Stenhouse will replace Matt Kenseth who will be driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.

NASCAR RACE #21 PREVIEW: Today, Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway

 

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series moves from Indianapolis to Lake Pond, Pennsylvania and Pocono Raceway, today for the Pennsylvania 400.

The race starts at 1:00 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN.

The expected capacity crowd of 76,812 will see a 400-mile race on the 2.5 mile track which will consists of 160 laps.

The “Tricky Triangle”, which Pocono is known as, presents three very different corners and three straightaways of varying degrees. This track is a real challenge for drivers and their crew chiefs.

The Sprint Cup races for 2012 have been reduced from 500 to 400 miles.

Brad Keselowski shook off injuries from a crash at Road Atlanta for his second win of the season. The Joe Gibbs Racing trio of Kyle Busch, who finished second, Denny Hamlin, who came in 15th and Joey Logano, who came in 26th, combined to lead 136 of the 200 laps.

Logano racks up third Nationwide win; edges Hamlin at Darlington Raceway

Joey Logano wrecked race leader Elliott Sadler five laps from the finish, then broke away during a green-white-checkered flag finish at Darlington Raceway last Friday night for his second straight Nationwide Series win.

Denny Hamlin finished second, Brad Keselowki was third, Sam Hornish Jr. finished fourth and Austin Dillon fifth.

Danica Patrick finished a solid 12th.

Logano was running third after the fifth caution period tightened the race near the final laps. Logano bumped Sadler at the restart, turning the leader’s car into the wall. Logano then shot past Denny Hamlin, his teammate from Joe Gibbs Racing and held on for his third series win of 2012.
