COLUMBUS, O. – Web.com Tour golfer Jim Herman had a bad day on Friday as he battled windy conditions. He said his play was sloppy off the tee and he tried to stay together mentally.

With all of his troubles, Herman was still in contention tied for ninth at 3-under par-139 with five other players.

Herman, who is from Cincinnati, Ohio and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, rallied back on Saturday with a resounding performance. He is tied for second place with Tyrone Van Aswegen at 7-under par-206, three strokes behind the leader, Seung-Yul Noh at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship on Ohio State’s Scarlet Course.

The one thing that stands out about Herman is, that you’ll see the letters TRUMP on his jackets, sweaters and shirts. He is sponsored by multi-millionaire businessman Donald Trump.

Trump does not sponsor many athletes. In addition to Herman, he backs David Frost from the Champions Tour and at one time Rocco Mediate.

One might wonder how Herman was fortunate enough to be sponsored by “The Donald”? “I’ve had a nice relationship with Mr. Trump”, Herman said. “I went to work for him in 2006. I was assistant professional for him for two years and qualified for the Web.com Tour my second season after working for him. He’s been a supporter and sponsor of mine. It’s nice to having someone like that on your shirt. You get a lot of attention, people ask about it.”

Herman told the media the story after his round about going to Bedminster, New Jersey to work for Trump. A job opened up there and a friend of his was the head professional, got interviews for the job and took it. Herman was hired shortly thereafter, spent a couple of years there but still kept his home in Port St. Lucie, Florida and went to Q-school in 2007.

Herman says that he saw Trump all the time in Bedminster. He plays golf all the time.

The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship is the third leg of four on the Web.com Tour Finals. The Hotel Fitness Championship in Ft. Wayne, Indiana kicked things off on August 29 with Trevor Immelman winning. The Chiquita Classic in Davidson, North Carolina last week was won by Andy Swoboda and the fourth event will take place on September 26, Web.com Tour Championship at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

How the Web.com Finals works is the PGA Tour golfers #126-200 in the FedEx Cup points plus the Web.com Tour #1-75 on the money list compete.

The top 25 players on the money list for the Web.com Tour regular season are assured a PGA Tour Card. Also, the Finals will determine an additional 25 cards, based on cumulative earnings in those events, as well as the positioning of all 50 cards. Plus, 50 PGA Tour Cards will be awarded following the Web.com Tour Championship.

What’s at stake? Those 50 PGA Tour Cards, exempt status to the 2014 Players Championship awarded to:

#1 on the Web.com Tour Regular Season Money List.

#1 on the Web.com Tour Finals Money List.
