Ohio State Football 2013 Fall Camp: Taylor Decker looking to make an impact on offensive line

The Ohio State Buckeyes are gearing up for the 2013 season with high expectations.

Their offensive line, eventhough they lost Reid Fragel to the NFL, is as sturdy as it has been in awhile with four starters returning and sophomore Taylor Decker looking to make an impact at right tackle.

At 6’7, 315-pounds, Decker is hulking and very powerful. The Vandalia-Butler High School grad played in all 12 games last season for Ohio State.

Taylor is seeking to replace the beforementioned Fragel, an NFL Draft pick in the 7th round by the Cincinnati Bengals.

The other members of the offensive line include senior Jack Mewhort at left tackle, senior Andrew Norwell at left guard, senior Corey Linsley at center and Sr. Marcus Hall at right guard.

Going into the 2012 season, the Buckeyes offensive line was considered its weakest line as the line underachieved under former line coach Jim Bollman. But the unit came together under the tutelage of Ed Warriner and finished the season as the best in the Big Ten.

Much-maligned Bollman headed to Boston College

Former offensive coordinator Jim Bollman, who took the brunt of criticism during the 2011 season at Ohio State for not being a great play-caller, has landed another job with the Boston College Eagles.

Bollman’s new position will be as the offensive line coach and running-game coordinator.

Everybody who covered and followed the Buckeyes team, knew that Bollman was an offensive coordinator by name only as former head coach Jim Tressel called all the plays.

But when Tressel resigned in May due to NCAA violations, Bollman had to take over an offense that had inexperienced quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers and was missing Daniel Herron at tailback and Devier Posey at wideout and it was obvious Bollman had no clue at what to do as the offense struggled against Miami (FL), Michigan State, Purdue and Penn State en route to a 6-7 record, the first losing season at Ohio State in 23 years.

Bollman told the media that he interviewed for the job a few weeks ago with Eagles head coach Frank Spaziani. He has never worked with Spaziani but they’ve known each other for years.

Boston College is coming off a bad season of their own in 2011 at 4-8 overall, 3-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

WISCONSIN AT OHIO STATE Gameweek: Guiton officially Miller’s backup at QB

The public and media had been wondering for sometime who Braxton Miller’s backup at quarterback was for several weeks.

The official answer to that question came from offensive coordinator Jim Bollman this week and it is Kenny Guiton.

Guiton, a third-year sophomore came to OSU as a late recruit in the 2009 recruiting class. His talents duplicate that of Miller. He has been improving in practice with increased reps the past few weeks, Bollman told the media.

With bad performances against Miami and Nebraska, it became obvious to the Ohio State coaches that senior Joe Bauserman was not the answer as a starter or backup at quarterback.
