Blue Jackets dominate Buffalo, 5-1

COLUMBUS, OHIO — Don’t look now, but the Columbus Blue Jackets are on a hot streak and have been playing solid hockey for two weeks.

The CBJ are on a points streak of five games and are 4-1-2 since a horrible 2-12-1 start. They’re starting to look like an NHL playoff contender.

Captain Rick Nash led the way with two goals and goalie Curtis Sanford played like an All-Star in goal again as Columbus ran Buffalo goalie Jhonas Enroth early in the second period of as the home team won 5-1 on Friday night at Nationwide Arena.

The injury-riddled Sabres have lost three games in a row.

Enroth came into the game with a 7-2-1 record filling in for All-Star goalie Ryan Miller who is out with a concussion. He was pulled by head coach Lindy Ruff after allowing four goals on 18 shots in 24:29 of action.

Joining Nash in leading the Jackets to their highest goal total and largest margin of victory this season were, Mark Letestu, Marc Methot and R.J. Umberger who scored goals.

Registering assists for Columbus were, Ryan Johansen, James Wisniewski and Jeff Carter with two assists each.

The crowd of 16,705 saw Columbus dominate the game from the outset without a threat of a letdown.


* Columbus left wing Vinny Prospal became the 268th player to play in 1,000 NHL games in a career. He is the sixth player from the Czech Republic to achieve the milestone. He was Philadelphia’s second pick, 71st overall player in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

*Vinny Prospal leads the Jackets in scoring with 19 points in 22 games.

* Buffalo came into the game tied with San Jose for the best road record in the league at 7-2-0.

* Blue Jackets head coach Scott Arniel was an assistant coach under Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff from 2002-2006.
