Steelers’ Woodley, several pro celebrities getting involved in PBA

Lamarr Woodley is a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers but he getting involved into the PBA in the Detroit area.

The 28-year-old graduate of the University of Michigan has joined several new owners by getting involved in the eight-team PBA Professional Bowling League that’ll start in January 2013 in the Detroit suburbs.

Woodley, who grew up in Saginaw, Michigan, bowled as a kid, will be the celebrity owner of the Pittsburgh Jack Rabbits.

Jerome Bettis, former running back of the Steelers, former NFL receiver Terrell Owens and LA Clippers point guard Chris Paul will also be involved in the new venue. The PBA has some of its top pros competing on five-man teams in a team format.

Pro Football Hall of Fame finalists announced

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced its list of finalists.

Running backs Curtis Martin, Jerome Bettis and Marshall Faulk and cornerback Deion Sanders are among the 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2011 class.

Martin, Bettis and Faulk are among the NFL’s top 10 yardage rushing leaders, and are eligible for the first time.

Sanders and offensive tackle Willie Roaf also are eligible for the first time.

The other finalists are receivers Tim Brown, Andre Reed and Cris Carter; center Dermontti Dawson; defensive ends Richard Dent, Charles Haley and Chris Doleman; defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy, and tight end Shannon Sharpe, along with NFL filmmmaker Ed Sabol.

The 15 finalists, along with senior nominees Chris Hanburger and Les Richter, will be considered for induction February 5, the day before the Super Bowl.

The Hall of Fame induction enshrinement will be in August in Canton, Ohio.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is getting ready to induct a new class in 2011. In the process, they’ve put out their nominees list which is highlighted by several running backs.

Curtis Martin, Jerome Bettis and Marshall Faulk, three of the top 10 rushers in NFL history, are among the 26 semifinalists on the list for the class of 2011 at the famous shrine in Canton, Ohio.

Other star running backs include Terrell Davis and Roger Craig.

Other nominees include:

Cornerbacks: Deion Sanders, Aeneas Williams and Lester Hayes.

Receivers: Cris Carter, Tim Brown and Andre Reed.

Tight End: Shannon Sharpe.

Offensive linemen: Willie Roaf and Dermotti Dawson.

Defensive lineman/linebackers: Charles Haley, Chris Doleman and Kevin Greene.

Defensive tackle: Cortez Kennedy.

Defensive end: Richard Dent.

Punter: Ray Guy.

Former Commissioner: Paul Tagliabue.

Former Owners: Art Modell and Ed DeBartolo, Jr.

Former General Manager: George Young.

Former coach: Don Coryell.

Contributor: NFL films originator Ed Sabol.

Between four and seven enshrinees, but no more than five modern-day nominees can make the final list which will be announced on February 5, the day before the Super Bowl.

Sanders & Bettis among candidates eligible for the Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced on Monday that Deion Sanders, Jerome Bettis, Curtis Martin and Marshall Faulk are among  the first-year eligible candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s class for 2011.

There are 113 nominees. From that list 25 semifinalists will be chosen in November. Then, there will be 15 finalists announced in January. Election for the Hall of Fame takes place the day before the Super Bowl in February.

Selected in August as senior nominees are former Redskins linebacker Chris Hanburger and former Rams linebacker Les Richter.

Also on the list are former coach Dick Vermeil, former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, team owners Bud Adams, Jr. of the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and Art Modell of the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens.

A minimum of four and maximum of seven new members will be selected to the Hall of Fame.
